Changing the hook size is a great idea. I am going to give it a try. Other videos use the same hook throughout the pattern

I need to make a hat that is 23-24 inches in size for someone. Do I still chain 51?

I used very small amount, maybe 30-40 g

You can use any yarn weight you want. Just adjust the number of stitches. First chain is the height and by adding rows you add circumference.

Yes, you can use any hook size, but you should change number of chains and rows to make it right size. First chain is the height of the hat, by adding rows you add circumference.
