It is expensive! Plus you can use left over yarn from other projects for this basket. I used some small yarn balls I got from a thrift store for this basket. Good luck making it and let me know if you experience any issues!

@Sharon Swanson I just followed the exact pattern that was in the video. It's harder using a smaller crochet hook with chunky yarn. A size N hook is 10mm. Mine worked up nicely with the 10mm

Totally enjoyed making the basket! Instructions were easy and I used up a lot of scrap yarn.

@@CrochetWithJulie As you go into the West Glacier entrance (over a bridge) there is a Glacier Park sign. Tradition is you stop a take a group photo. That where my photo was taken. Those grandkids are all grown up now. The weather is perfect now and the smoky skies are gone. Warm days and cool nights. I have many favorite spots but for a first timer I would go into Apgar Village to the visitor center. You will get a great map on entrance. Poke around there for a bit, next stop Lake MacDonald Lodge. One of the first lodges for early old time visitors. Sorry I wrote so much...lol . I do love the Park. Have fun and explore, hope it's not too crowded. Eat some Huckleberries!

My suggestion would be to roll all three balls into one ball. I did it with my second basket and it worked wonderfully and it was so much easier to work with.

That is an excellent suggestion and I could see that really helping. For scrap yarn, the yarn lengths are very different, and I could see rolling them into one ball to be a little bit of a mess, but if you are working with full skeins, I think this is amazing!

Hello! This shouldn't really collapse, but if you want it to be sturdier than you see in the video, I would recommend crocheting with more strands of yarn simultaneously and working with a larger crochet hook. But, three strands at once will hold its form and not topple over. Happy crocheting!

This was a great tutorial! Totally going to start my basket today. I do have a question. I like the edge of mine to have the back wards sc. Not sure when to start that. Can you give me an idea? Thanks❤

I LOVE that idea! I just want to make sure I understand. Do you mean that you want to edge the top of the basket by placing your SC stitches in the opposite direction? If so, I have done this before and it looks really nice. If not, then let me know and disregard all the below info lol! • If you are doing this along with the handles, then after placing the initial row of CH stitches for the handles, I would place a few SL st between the handles and then CH 1, reverse your SC stitches in the opposite direction, and then SL st into your 1st SC st of that row (I hope this makes sense lol). If you want your edging to be more dramatic, then add an additional row, but I have found with the 3 strands that 1 row of edging is plenty. • If you want to replace the handles with a simple edge, I would get the basket to your desired height, and then place 4-5 SL st in the next 4-5 st. CH 1 from there and then place your SC st in reverse order. When you get to the end of your row, SL st into the top of your 1st SC st. If you want to add additional rows, just CH 1 and keep going. :) I really hope this helps, but if not, please let me know and I will be happy to brainstorm this with you. Happy crocheting!

Hello! Thank you so much! For this basket, I think I kept it turned toward the "ugly" side, but you could easily pick which side you like best and stick with that. I would also highly recommend crocheting over the tails (I didn't do that and I should have), and then you can easily make it reversible!!! Happy crocheting!

Your instructions seem to be so much easier than others that I have watched. My question is am I missing something because you are the first person not to chain at the beginning of each row. Are you doing the DC continuously around without any chains or slip stitch to end the row? If that is the case it is amazingly so much easier. Thank you for that!

Thank you so much! And yes, this pattern is a little bit funky in that you won’t need to start and stop your rows, as they should act like a spiral. For the increasing rows that form the base of the basket, I usually use a scrap piece of yarn to mark the 1st stitch in each row. I hope this helps! It won’t stand on it’s own without something inside it. I believe if you used cotton yarn it would be more firm.

It is funny that you say that because I've been playing around with one strand patterns! I'd switch to a size 5/F crochet hook (or similar), work with a HDC increasing base, and then HDC in the back stitch for building the height. I don't think it would be nearly as sturdy as with three strands, but I think it would work. I have a two strand version of that here: kzread.info/dash/bejne/pnxn0sOfeMi3lpc.html if you want to get an idea of what I'm saying. This is a great idea though, and if I can get it to sit upright, I'll definitely make a tutorial for it!

Can it be done using fabric strips instead of thread you think? Thank you!

I think that would be great! As long as you have a large enough crochet hook to work with the strips, then it should turn out great!

Using 3 strands can I do a HDC? If so after row 5 do I switch to SC to build up & continue with SC?

Do you mean when you are stopping one row and starting the next? If so, I usually prefer continuous loop patterns (if I am not planning on switching colors a lot). But that is a preference. You could easily work this by the row.

Yea that what I mean n it does seem easier that way. Besides adding the changing colors would it b the same as in adding yarn, but I guess I will c it in the video.

@@marthatorres3023 For this video, I just weaved in new colors as I ran out of a strand of yarn (around 4:17 in the video). If you wanted to change out all three strands at the same time and not have it look uneven, I would place 10-15 slip stiches, yarning over with the new colors on the last SL, then CH 1 and continue placing SC. In my opinion, this pattern works best when you change one strand at a time and try to space them out if you can. It gives it a fun look without looking patterned. I hope this helped ☺️

Did the basket stand up on its own or did you use something to make it stand up?

There is nothing inside it to make it stand up in that picture. It will lose some the structure once you put something in it. Right now I have yarn balls in it, and it isn't falling over or anything like that, but it looks a little lumpy in comparison to that photo.

It is roughly 13” in diameter and 14” - 16” tall. You will need quite a bit of scrap yarn to make this. That's a great question. I was using small balls of yarn that were about 1/2 a skein or smaller, but this is a bit of a yarn hog. I would say two of each to be safe. I will have to give this a try with full skeins and get back to you. Any excuse to make another one lol ☺️

@@suphaphitsriwicha5841 lol I have made another one that is similar, and I would say 6 - 9 skeins. 6 skeins are good if you don't have an exact height you need it to be, but I would use 9 if you want to get it to a certain height.

I don't currently have the basket with me, but I would say (very roughly) that it is around 13" diameter and 14-16" tall. I can add a guide for increasing the base to whatever size you need in the description of that would be helpful. You can easily adjust the height to fit your needs. I hope this helps.

I don’t know if that would do it as long as it is consistent. I’m not sure how far you are in the pattern, but I think it should get better after the increasing rows. It might help to set it down flat when you take breaks (if it is only cupping a little bit). If it is cupping a lot, it might help to increase by 13 or 14 stitches each row rather than 12. I can write that pattern out for you if you would like.

@@lahirko1961 I am so sorry it has been so difficult! These are the patterns for increasing by 13 & 14 stitches in each row rather than 12. This should help with the cupping (I am hoping). These patterns will make your basket a little bit wider, so if you don't want that, then leave off the last row of increasing. Since this is continuous loop, you can also stop anywhere in the middle of the last row and begin placing 1 SC in each st in the row from this point, instead of at the end of the row. Also, it might be helpful to turn the basket inside out once you are done increasing and then place 1 SC in each st in each row. Sometimes that is enough to get it to straighten out. I'm sorry again that this has been tough! Try to make sure that you are holding the three strands evenly as well. I know when I started crocheting with multiple strands, sometimes I would accidentally pull one strand tighter than the others and that would cause the pattern to bunch slightly. Increase by 13 st each row: Magic Circle (MC) Row 1: 13 DC inside MC. Row 2: 2 DC in each of the 13 DC from the previous row (26 total st at the end of the row). Use a scrap piece of yarn to mark your 1st st of each row, so you know where your row starts and should end. Row 3: *1 DC in 1st st, 2 DC in 2nd st.* Repeat * around the row. (39 total st at the end of the row). Row 4: *1 DC in st 1 and st 2, 2 DC in st 3.* Repeat * around the row (52 total st at the end of the row). Row 5: *1 DC in st 1, 2, and 3, 2 DC in st 4.* Repeat * around the row (65 total st at the end of the row). Rows 6 - desired height: Place 1 SC in each st of the row. Repeat until the basket reaches your desired height. Increase by 14 st each row: Magic Circle (MC) Row 1: 14 DC inside MC. Row 2: 2 DC in each of the 14 DC from the previous row (28 total st at the end of the row). Use a scrap piece of yarn to mark your 1st st of each row, so you know where your row starts and should end. Row 3: *1 DC in 1st st, 2 DC in 2nd st.* Repeat * around the row. (42 total st at the end of the row). Row 4: *1 DC in st 1 and st 2, 2 DC in st 3.* Repeat * around the row (56 total st at the end of the row). Row 5: *1 DC in st 1, 2, and 3, 2 DC in st 4.* Repeat * around the row (70 total st at the end of the row). Rows 6 - desired height: Place 1 SC in each st of the row. For this project I used thrift store yarn, so the weight varied quite a bit, but I would guess size 4 Medium and slightly smaller.
