Thanks very much, this is the clearest video I've seen on putting these connectors together - I'll be using one for the first time tomorrow fitting a satnav to my motorcycle. Many videos just blow through or completely ignore the details. I've watched about 5 so far that haven't thought to show whether to put male connector in the male housing or the female housing, which part of the crimping tool to use when, and how to align the connector pin wings with the housing. 👍👍👍

Sweet, glad this video helped! These are great connectors and doing well on my air cooled VW aircraft engine. WAY better than the originals.

After watching 4 videos that either never zoomed in to show the process or there was no Audio instructions. KZreads algorithm gave me this perfect video recommendation thank you sir for making my day easier and for a great instructional video.

Great video, and I couldn’t help noticing the P-38 literature! Beautifully presented instructional video. Only part I could have used more close ups (and slow)was in how to exactly position the terminal into the crimping tool before squeezing the handles. No big deal though, I figured it out. Thanks and keep up the great work.

Thanks! That book was a surprise gift and even signed by the "Doorknob" himself. I'm a LIFE LONG warbird fan, love to read about them and the true Greatest Generation who piloted them. Flying a real one is on my bucket list someday, but for now my little Sonex will have to do. Thanks for the feedback on the vid, you're not alone. I'll keep that in mind for the future. In the meantime, I'm considering creating a Google drive folder with close up shots to supplement this one.

Thanks for the vid! I'm adding a remote start to my Ram 2500 but I'm also building a Vans RV 7 as well. Positive Ill be using this with the Vans later on.

Awesome! RVs are sweet airplanes, always keeping an eye open for an affordable project... Ironically on a recent EDM install, i learned that JPI uses a very similar connector called a metripack, FAA approved. Just solidifies my stance on using them for aviation applications.

Just bought a pontoon boat and am running some electrical wires using the Delphi connecters which I've never used. Excellent video - appreciate your instructional video. With your Sonex....you're probably heading to Airventure in a few weeks. CAVU

The overall content of the tutorial is very helpful. My only suggestion would be perhaps to take some close-up shots of the connectors after you finish them and hold them still. Even by stopping the video and going frame by frame, I was unable to get a clear view of the connectors because you were rotating them when you were showing them off, lol.

Very nice video. I like the care you put into your work. If I could suggest one thing. Napa makes something called Sil-Glyde that is a silicon based sealant, non-hardening to help things slide into place and seal better. Might keep seals from damage while sliding into place and long term better waterproofing. (Di-Electric grease is probably the better fit).

When dealing with aviation wiring I try not to solder. The solder can cause a failure point where it wicks down in the wire and becomes brittle when exposed to vibration . Just food for thought. I'll usually use a crimp with a double barrel where it crimps to the wire and the insulation or a bare connector and heat shrink adhesive tubing. Would it be possible to put heat shrink on after crimping the wire but before crimping the water proof donut?

I typically agree 100% on soldering connections for aviation use. I had one fail on my CDI ignition box ( kzread.info/dash/bejne/rHlpmqaPes-Xiqw.html ), broke clean off of the board. In this case, I was hoping that the nature of the terminal itself would prevent this, but it's definitely something I'll be keeping an eye on. Regarding heat shrink, you can run a tube right up to the wire crimp for the terminal, and then run the silicone seal on. That was one thing I did on the connectors that needed to be doubled up out of the CDI box ( kzread.info/dash/bejne/Z4d_1Zmsj7rFpLA.html ). If you want to heat shrink the crimped wire portion with a short piece of tubing, I think you would have enough room inside the connector body. But it could probably only be a touch longer than the crimp area. It'd be difficult to use a longer continuous piece. Something to look into though.

@@LeftSeatAdventures another possibility would be to maybe squeeze a little dab of silicone into the end of the connector where the wire is coming out. It could remove the possibility of vibration at the solder. The downside being you wouldn't be able to take the wire out of the connector in the future.

Soldering is never recommended anything with an engine, Just take a look at any automobile, race car, motorcycle, watercraft or aircraft! People also seem to forget that if there is an electrical issue and a wire overheats soldered joints could come apart and fail, Plus it can cause a short somewhere else!

Please don't solder aviation connections in high-vibration environments the mechanical lock keeps the wire securely attached, they don't offer the same conductivity as a soldered connection, soldered connections offer superior conductivity but are more likely to work-harden and break where the solder ends at a stress point.

You're 100% correct! I even referenced the NASA study on solder joints in a previous video where one failed on my CDI box, then completely whiffed it on this one. I'll see if I can add a card or something to make the point.

You shouldn't twist the wires for these connectors. This prevents the little tabs from working themselves into the wire. You want the strands to be straight so the tabs enter the wire and form a figure B

That's a very good point! 👍 Double checking the Seal All manual, it does show the strands remaining straight. I just twisted them out of habit. They've held up well, but not best practice. Thanks for the feedback.

Hi Rich, yes they are. Funny thing is, if you order the "Seal All" connectors from Aircraft Spruce, the plastic bodies actually have DELPHI scribed right on them. I'm guessing that Seal-All only makes the seals and terminals. I'm doing another video on them shortly that'll clearly show this.

I had ordered a Delphi kit for the boat a few months back and ran low on the two prong connectors and now need three of them for an LED light installation on the Piper. There's two locking tabs to open the connector body, then the terminals can be pushed out of it using the removal tool here: amzn.to/3mwmk5k

Mine are the Seal-All brand available from Aircraft Spruce, but they look an awful lot like the GM Delphi crimpers available here: amzn.to/3AIUTuP Good solid crimpers made with proper steel, no flex. Or there's this one that also comes with the pin removal tool: amzn.to/3dZlidQ Cheers!
