I made some with NFC tags and I did some with sending automated texts at certain times. Or if I enter a room dim the light turn on tv and open certain apps

@@mrrbb2028 Nice! I had some for automated texts also but found it more useful to just send myself lol. I need to get my TV setup in the Home app so I can have it turn on when I get home. Thanks for reminding me lol

I never understood the Shortcuts thing until this video. Thanks a bunch man! This will be super useful for my morning get up routine!

Had my iPhone for about half a year now and I cannot believe I’m just finding out about this. Scripting is a godsend and I work with these event-based scripts in other applications, so this is great!

I discovered this a few years ago. But never understood and was too complicated. Until a came across your video. I thank you for your service! 🤘🏽

I have one in the Bluetooth section for when I connect my AirPods it will show a menu with three options to quickly choose like podcast, music KZread. When I’m in my car I use the same Bluetooth trigger so when I turn on my Bluetooth it will ask me directions to work or home. If it’s work then it will be early morning and dark so it it will also dim the brightness and then pop back into podcasts for me while it’s loading Waze directions in background. Have a few more like nfc tag on my workout bikes that opens the app for working out and music.

Hi Brandon your video on shortcuts is very useful thanks. I’ve a shortcut saved to my home screen that opens a particular photo when I click on the tile. The script is finding the photo then showing it using quick look (show photos in quick look). However it opens the photo NOT in full screen. You have to tap the actual image to show it in full screen. Is there a shortcut script to show the photo in FULL SCREEN mode either using show photos in quick look or show photos or something?

Great video. It's got me thinking. I'm trying to create an automation for the Amazon Flex App. I can get the app to open without a problem. Is it possible to navigate to a particulat menu item within the app and then refresh the screen every specified number of seconds?

Wow! I made one just like yours and can't wait to hear it next morning! The only problem I have is that it works with apple apps and just a few others. E.g. I can't make my Deezer music app open when my earphones are connected, can't do anything with google calendar, and the weather app doesn't change the speed of wind to meters per second properly, so I get 1667 m/s instead of 1.667, or better yet 1.5 m/s - and you can't do anything about it. Hope they continue developing this feature because it is a great tool to make your life easier.

Hello, Brandon. I liked the way you described this lesson. But, Do these automations also work for the iwatches as well? I tried it, however; it didn’t work. For example; I set my animation for when my battery ( I chose iwatch battery dropped below or above a certain amount, to speak my text that I typed). Although, it wasn’t regarding my iwatch battery. It was really pertaining to the status of my iPhone battery and not my iwatch battery . 😞 Any advice, Please ?🙏🏽

So Apple essentially added activator in ios 13?

I'm on iOS 12 with an iPhone 7+ and have not updated to iOS 13 but would love to even just solely for the automated shortcuts! My only question is, given the fact that the shortcuts can be automated, does that end up killing the battery life? Also, if the shortcuts app is not running in the background, does it still execute automated shortcuts?

Brandon, I am having trouble with getting the “Speak Text” to work. I followed your video, and it will work with the automation open by tapping the arrow, but when I set a time to have the text speak, all I get is a visual notification and No Speak of the text. Please let me know.

A lot of bugs with Speak Text Function but overall a great phone feature.

The morning weather automation has been awesome, but since iOS 14.5 dropped it doesn't trigger it to run. Runs with a forced run within the script, though. Weird.

I get a notification that says "automation running" but nothing comes out of the speakers. When I click play while setting it up, everything works fine. Is there a setting for it? When scheduling a daily text message in automations, am I using the "recipients" time zone or my time zone.

I tried using automations for when I arrive at work and ETA home when I leave work, I ride a motorbike a lot and having automations asking me to run or not is pretty useless. Apparently automations based on arriving or leaving a location will not work automatically

Yea I agree - I find every bit of this useless since you still have to interact with the shortcut to have it do anything. Automation I don't think so.

There’s a way to be truly automated, but you need to have Jailbreak and the tweak Truecuts

Is there any kind of automation that can switch bluetooth devices? For example, if I’m using Powerbeats Pro with my iPad then want to switch to iPhone, is there an automation I could run on the phone that finds the headphones and switches without having to open Settings each time on whichever device I want to switch the headphones to?

Awesome video! Everything works just fine except for Siri. I noticed your Siri talks like the latest but mine sounds like the old 2010 robotic sounding version and I use the Irish female voice normally and It sounds just fine In normal situations Im using Xmax running 13.3 app and phone. I tried changing the voice within the app but they all sound like out of date robots I can’t stand waking up to that lol Any Ideas?

Go to Settings>Accessibility>Voice Over>Speech>Voice, and make sure Siri Female is downloaded (or Samantha Enhanced)

I have an automation on when my Bluetooth connects it opens my Spotify app, luckily it asks me first just in case I’m not in the mood for Spotify

Mujtaba Merchant hi! I found a way on how it tells you the day! On the date format, scroll down to custom format. I find it annoying when it mention the year because it says 2020 inch. So what I did is once you clicked the custom format, something will pop up like this “EEE, dd MMM yyyy HH:mm:ss Z” I deleted the “yyyy all the way to Z. But you can leave it as it is all remove only the yyyy then hit done. Hope it helps

I really don’t know how to appreciate but it has done the job. my next challenge is to have the automation tell me when to expect rain I can get the percentage precipitation chance if you ask Siri what is the weather like today it tells you the high low current temperature and when to expect rain example expect thunderstorms at around 4 PM just us city what is the weather today like and you will understand what I’m saying

Hi, total noob here haha. I was wondering if it’s possible when and email comes with a reference number in the subject, can a section from that email be copied and then paste that into a Callander event which also has the email reference number? I’m forever updating calendar events and add details for regular received emails. Hope that makes sense

I set time of day automations to open specific shortcuts but instead of running automatically ; it merely gives me a notification I then have to manually press. Is this a beta bug; or are automations not really automatic?

How do I make it so that it continues a certain podcast episode

How do you use Google Maps shortcut to get directions to a certain place every morning or at a set time every week? The “Get directions” shortcut just seems to prompt me to manually type in the address which is not an automation imo. Very useful video. I made a simple automation just now to turn on airplane mode every night at a certain time and another one to turn it back off before I wake up. It’s supposed to be better for your health, and now I dont even have to remind myself. It’s also more energy efficient, sometimes I had an app open in the background using locational services all night and in the morning my battery is drained.
