I have ported atboard files from Designer to Photo before, but I sometimes get some weird issues with them, especially with pixel layers if the artboard has bleed settings (for printing). Overall though, artboards are very useful, and one of the main reasons I like Designer so much. I like the ability to have a big work area where I can simply put everything in, various versions of an illustration, reference images, color swatches. Its really a great feature.

Affinity Designer/Photo automatically moves art from one artboard layer to whatever artboard layer the object or pixel layer is on. Does anyone know how to disable this? A simple on/0ff toggle option would fix such a frustrating "feature"

Interesting. I do this in affinity designer but didn’t know this wasn’t possible in photo. I have a template i created with 25 frames that i use when im making storyboards. When i start a project i just iterate ideas across a page so ill work on one design, eventually duplicate it and copy it to another artboard and alter it and so onu til i fill up the project. If i don’t have what i need i start-with another 25 and repeat.Since application linking exists with all three affinity programs i assume i should be able to jump in and out of programs with my template. Ill have to give that a try to make sure it works.

  • @OlivioSarikas

Sounds like a really cool workflow. Yes, when you are in publisher, you can jump between the three programs without leaving the software :)

  • @umanoid1523

@@OlivioSarikas i developed the workflow originally in illustrator. I used to labor over frames while designing and discovered many years ago(With a studio partners suggestion) just iterate and iterate quickly. After a session or two of this exploration/ warm up i walk away from the project and get some distance from the work (A day is best but hours work if i don’t have that luxury) and usually I have a direction and enough pieces/ ideas to work from. Ive also recently returned to an old technique I used many years ago where once i have an overarching design theme i build out what i call a panorama board which is 5-6 frames wide. Working left to right i design a super wide board to indicate style and mood and a vague narrative without necessarily having to work out all the narrative details. I send this to the client to get a sign off before developing full boards where i go back to my template. These are storyboards for motion graphics/ video work. Ive found with some of these techniques Ive cut my design time down and have much quicker results with less back and forth with the clients.
