I made a little journal when I was in Italy. I took photos of the things I wanted to draw and later wrote a little text and painted every evening after dinner at the hotel bar. I put the business card of the place I went to in my journal and things I found(pressed flowers/stickets and more) It was so much fun!!😊😊

Definitely understand the overpacking lol better to bring with because you never know if might need that specific art supply. Greece would be a beautiful place to visit

Roussillon in the South of France is super nice for art travel. It's called the Colorado of France. There is a lot to learn/see about the old-school way of mining ocre pigments and just buying nice colors and using them on the spot!! 😁

I feel like as much as I’d love to go on an art retreat, I need to do more plein air in my own neighborhood and local area. I’m so bad at getting out of the house to paint. But my ideal location would be Spain 💕

Honestly I’m just always so tired from travelling (just enjoying myself, walking around, eating great food etc) that in practical sense I probably won’t have time/energy to actually do art, unless I very specifically decide to set aside time for art maybe. I bought some art supplies during my trip last year but was too busy in the day to paint and too exhausted at night to do much else. I LOVE watching others paint outside/when traveling though! :P “I am a heavy packer” Me too, well not so much for clothes… But the other stuff in my life? Even the stuff I bring to work or out shopping? I feel so insecure if I don’t have like a ton of things with me 😅 Packing suncream - gives me flashbacks of when I got horrific burns after being out in the sun for about an hour while having lunch. That practically never happens locally because there’s almost always cloud cover and who the heck who make conference attendees eat lunch in the sun in this hot and crazy weather? 😅

Thanks for sharing MessyDesk! Oh no! Sorry to hear about your sun burn! I definitely think it’s easy to forget these things sometimes I agree lol I love taking lots with me 😜 just in case inspiration strikes but not putting pressure if it’s a “filling cup” experience instead xx

Streamlined? 😂 Seriously, I watch your travel videos and am shocked that you are not wearing the same outfit every day because I don’t know where you find the room for clothes with all of your art supplies 😅. (Do you secretly stash dresses in your family’s luggage? Lol) Love seeing your trips and the different travel kits you prepare and the art you create 😊. The idea of a group art trip sounds like an amazing experience and I hope it works out for you!! Even though I know I “could” go on an excursion like that, I would feel soooo guilty diverting travel budget funds to a solo trip for myself since my family enjoys traveling as much as I do. I’ll have to live vicariously through videos.

That Portable Painter Micro, it has a little ring for attaching a lanyard so I hang it around my neck. I have the quadruple pans in it so there are 16 colors. I spent a month in Italy last fall and went out every day with the palette, a 5x5” Hahnemuhle sketchbook, a water brush, a pencil and a fountain pen (a Pineider made and purchased in Florence). I had more art supplies back in the hotel room, but that is what I took out every day. Your travel sketching is inspirational!

I kind of struggle to find travel brushes I like (and are affordable)😕 I tried taking my favorite regular brushes in a roll with me on a longer hike but they took up too much space and some got a bit frizzy. I hope to find some new travel brushes before my next hike in aug/sep.

@@SketchesnScrubs my two most used brushes are DaVinci casaneo size 2 and Kum memory point size 9. It’s kind of hard to explain why I like them. The davinci brush can hold a lot of water so I can cover “larger” areas with it (think A5 sketchbook) but it doesn’t necessarily release a lot of water and the point is very pointy so I can also use it for details. The kum brush is more dense so I tend to use this one when I want less water but still want to cover areas with color, I use it for more detailed work aswell. I don’t know why I use bigger brushes even if it’s for details. In summary I guess, I mostly use round brushes around size 9 ish, must be pointy. Once in a while I use a 0 sized rigger brush or a size 3ish and I’m trying to incorporate more flat brushes when I’m painting because if the straight edges it can create. I tried the Winsor and Newton professional synthetic sable round brush in size 8 but it released too much water and the tip was kind of meh. I hope that makes sense. To be honest I’m not even sure why I like the brushes I do, I just do🤷‍♀️ Also, I might aswell mention that I’m not a loose type of painter.
