How to Create a Transparent Gradient in Photoshop

The easiest way to add a transparent gradient in Photoshop is by using the gradient tool from the tool menu.
With the gradient tool, you have a transparent gradient option that can start from any color and transition to a gradient.
You can always change the color of the gradient by adding a color overlay layer style.
For best practice, create an empty layer, so you can apply your transparent gradient in a non-destructive way.

Interesting technique. I was using the eraser tool on a high size to make the margins transparent 😀

As of September 2023 this no longer works
Does not work. All this does is put a gradient transparency over the image so that half the image disappears. That is not the same effect this PS guru is describing. When will these Youube PS gurus learn how to teach? And that not everyone uses a Mac? This is just more Mac snobbery. Waste of time.
