How long do you wait to see it if set before you try to root it?

It depends on the time of year. I have several rooted and 2 are shooting new growth. Another strategy is to remove all the nodes and hope new growth shoots off of the cambium layer.

New branches should be on the younger cut? Or the old one? It roots in The old one, right?

Julio pruned it until "the growth looked different" I've seen new growth pop out of some of the most interesting spots, not just the thorns!

Grafted plants and somatic hybrids aren't the same thing. Grafted plants don't exchange DNA between stock and scion. Somatic hybrids are made in the lab by artificially fusing cells from different plants.

One might think that, but Wallace Ranch created a somatic hybrid using this method. I ate the fruit and have seen the plant in 2019 and 2021. kzread.info/dash/bejne/o3mkxqSrgZPPpdo.html

That's not hybrid plant! That's a grafted plant!
