It's cool.

30% of my final assessment was this! Created w10 image, with corporate background, motd and 6 apps. I followed the instruction and 2 hours later I had a working bootable golden image. In fact I did it again from scratch to get some screen shots and it worked again. I still don't understand the need for the scratch folder (thinking its some type of marker?) and when I did dism it didn't like the /checkintegrity part so I took it out. but instructions are solid, thanks very much

I believe the scratch dir is a temporary folder for building the .wim since it cannot be on the same disk you're capturing.

Yes, you can do but if you deploy this image in the different network then the network drive would become not reachable.

Yes, you can create a master ISO with required applications/shortcut created on the admin profile then can deploy that master ISO on other workstations.

Worked great. 21H2 version. I had to turn off but locker on windows drive. 21H2 also had no wim file to overwrite in source directory. Very useful. Some explanation on the last command that coverts to iso will be very helpful.

This is not for any specific model or PC. You can create ISO from any system. Final ISO will be having software & drivers which you have installed in the source system.

Will this work for a pxe boot as well? To image over network without ISO

Hi Sir, this is the great tutorial. How can i capture image with recovery push button reset? do you have any tutorials? I have applied/enabled recovery by reagentc enable then captured install.wim file using your tutorial; then after using the deployment key on another machine recovery deosnt exist. @@windywhite9252 On the partitioning page during format, you will have to delete the old system partition otherwise it will show the two win 10 on every boot.

Seems you volumes are not mapped with drive letter. Assign them the drive letter first.

Fantastic video! Spent three days messing around with a VM server with WDS and DHCP in order for this to work. I just have one problem. I use Media Creation Tool to create a Windows 10 ISO, but since that contains an install.esd instead of install.wim I had to convert it using cmd. I choose the index for Windows 10 Pro and then followed your steps but when I try to install it it says it can't find the menu where you choose which version of Windows 10 you wany. Any idead on how to get this to work? Or any idea on how to get a Windows 10 Pro ISO that contains an install.wim as default? It has to be an official image from Microsoft because i'm using it at my job

Latest windows images has install.esd instead of install.wim. If your source ISO is having the different versions to select then final ISO will also have the options.

No. My windows were installed on a laptop disk.

Do you have to partition the drive before creating the image? I just want to copy an image with two user's and some specific software installed. Once I get to the reboot and diskpart section only the removable boot USB pulled up. I am trying this on a brand new machine. Can that be it?

If you have no other drive than C, then it will show USB only in which you will have to save the installer.wim file.

We can start the machine but we will have to do the all initial setup again. In this video, we have run the Sysprep to remove the footprints of the HDD from the OS.

Before running syspre command , can I create other local account so that after generalized my iso I'll also find my accounts?

@@faisalshafique830 Size of install.wim file depends on data you have in the C drive. Through disk-cleanup remove unwanted files. Uninstall the unwanted software. As less content as you have in C drive, install.wim would be of smaller size.

@@VirtualTechBox Yes I managed to have different Ids now. I installed everything I needed in the Audit Mode. Then, without creating a new profile, I saved the image via WinPE and everything worked fine. What I did before in Audit Mode, where I am not sure if it had an effect, was deleting the Windows product key. I am not sure if it had an effect. Note: I am working with Windows 10 2019 LTSC Enterprise and had an ePKEA. Thanks again for your video!

​ @Virtual TechBox I'm having issues doing this on server 2022, for some reason the disk part section doesn't list the volumes, I have Windows as C drive and Data as D but the lists do not show anything for the Windows disk and Lists Data as C, I'm also using a USB to boot from for the Server 2022, do I have to boot it like you do through the ISO on the physical computer instead?

I am having some issues. I'm able to create the install.wim and the ISO but when I load it in the VM it loads the first account I made with the Admin username even though I deleted it. I've tried twice and keep getting the same result.

After Sysprep when you power on the system, it will ask you to create one user that user will be available in the final iso.

Bro one doubt...after rebooting you have entered Administrator password right? Was it built in Administrator or local admin? If that is built in Administrator account, have you already set the password? Please help me there I got confused

It is a built-in Administrator. Better before proceeding just enable the built-in Administrator and set the password for it.

Does your login user has admin rights on windows? Hope you have done the run as admin to Deployment and Imaging Tool.

Hi, for some reason after i install windows ADK i cant found the Deployment and Imaging tools Environment, i searched where i installed ADK and i found a Dism.exe but it never opens, is there any alternative for that program?

Hope during installation of adk you have selected the "Deployment Tools".

One thing shouldnt sysprep come after you isntalled everything, bcs i think but not sure im just rying it out you did sysprep and then configured everything which invalidates sysprep in the first place? but anyway sorry didnt mention in the first try very very useful tutorial and most of all clear as the sky all the best :)

Sysprep is required to remove the HDD footprints from the image then we installed the required software in the image.

Yes SID will still be there but you would be able to install that image on some other system which is not possible without running sysprep.@@stefanudovcic5649

Hemos ejecutado sysprep para eliminar las huellas de HDD del sistema operativo. La imagen ISO creada con este método se puede usar tanto en MBR como en GPT.

@@danielesalutari Final ISO will be having the Hostname of the source system. You will have to change the hostname manually on target workstations.

Will it the mounting work on a Windows 7 disk without drivers?

It should.

When saving image in dism the process is taking a very long time. Three hours later and only at 5%. Is this just due to slow hardware pr did I do something wrong?

It depends on how much data you have in C and how much software you have installed on your computer.

Thank you. If you have Windows ISO, you can make bootable pen drive using rufus software.

@@aromanayyar Yes all commands were done on the reference machine only. Yes, you can save install.wim file locally on C drive/USB.

Hay, i tryed it but after deleting user accounts and running sysprep as oobe the pc does not start and it gives error message "windows setup could not configure windows to run on this computer's hardware" pls help

Hope you have selected "Generalize" under OOBE.

Hey is it possible to recover your original user profiles after doing sysperp? I actually didn’t go through the complete process I restarted my pc but it forced my to create a new user account. But I want to get back to my original user account.

Seems it is not possible to recover that user profile.

Thank you for a very nice tutorial. But I think you must add that the default system should not have been modified in any way for this to work. For example, if a user has deleted some of the pre-installed apps that came with Windows, this process would probably fail when Sysprep runs. Same holds true if the user has installed new Microsoft Store apps. It seems that simply deleting the user account is NOT enough The system must be totally clean, like it is with a fresh and clean installation. In short, this process is unlikely to work in most cases. The user must start with a clean install of the OS, then download 3rd party programs (from outside Microsoft Store) as desired and then follow your tutorial.

You don't even have to use the Sysprep process. I don't know why he bothered with that. If you are trying to basically clone a computer (say in an office environment) to many other identical hardware computers, this process works great. You can create a custom machine with whatever software you need, licenses, etc...and this effectively clones that and turns it into an image you can deploy much more easily that doing each machine manually. Again, the Sysprep step is unnecessary.
