Thanks Matt, Some very good points. Another of advantage of setting up in front of the base is in a double steal situation (1st and 3rd) it makes the footwork throwing to home easier.

Hey Matt, Thanks so much for making these videos, they’ve helped me so much! Could you make one on judging fly balls and line drives when on base? It seems like I’m always scurrying back when I should be tagging up and waiting half way when I should be scoring!

Sam Konstan don't be afraid to tell your 1st/3rd base coach you have problems reading the ball. They're there to help with that and he can give you some help by saying "back, halfway, go go go" Oh yeah, and if you're ever out you can say it was the coaches fault 😂

Hey Matt, just wondering if you can make a video on infield throws with no momentum, as I see a lot of guys field tough back hand plays close to the outfield grass, and from there they just throw the ball without any footwork going towards first base, however when I try this it’s an incredibly weak and uncomfortable throw for me to make. I wanted to see a video with your thoughts on when to make this play, and the mechanics behind it.

I prefer standing in front of the bag because sometimes the catcher puts the ball in the dirty in front of the bag I can take it on a better hop and I have more room to react to a bad throw. Playing 3rd base on a steal I drop down my left knee to basically block the bag to make the runner work harder for the bag.

Hey Matt I am a left handed first baseman for my high school team and I stand where lefties usually stand on the line a little bit open for pickoffs and my high school coach is trying to get me to straddle the bag is this ok or no.

Watch out Bill Ripken is going to call you names for not straddling. There is an MLB Channel video where Billy Ripken kills guys standing in front of the bag. The co-host mentions Javy Baez and Billy more or less says he hates how he plays the bag on a steal but he is good and he is the best in the league at letting the ball do the work. As you mentioned it all depends on skill of the player. Another great video Matt!

Hey Matt, as a Venezuelan former player, I was wondering what are the chances for an old guy like me, 37 years old to play some ball, like for fun, here in the north, I live in Canada now, is it softball my only option? winter here makes me want to get the most out of summer!

There's plenty of men's leagues in the USA. There's some very competitive ones as well with some former minor leaguers, college players, and former college players, up to the Men's 30+ or 40+ leagues which still have some good talent, but are more relaxed.
