One thing I do which I don't hear mentioned a lot is a way I have of obliterating the whole painting. If you use a small amount of Gum Arabic in the water it makes paint lift easier so if I'm well into a piece of work and have gone badly wrong I just get a strong garden sprayer and wash the lot away. With the Gum Arabic in the mix it brings the paper almost back to white but also leaves a ghost image so it's easy to re draw. MUST let the paper dry thoroughly though and of course if you want any really white highlights when you rework it use Gouache. This works well for me.

Thanks for showing your mistakes and how to go about correcting them. As a beginner some of these have happened to me and I have panicked and ruined the piece by overcorrecting and making everything muddy. Also thanks for showing different ways of getting detail in like with the card. You are the only one I have seen do this! 😊 I think I am still too heavy handed even with a very thin brush so struggle to get nice thin lines. Thank you for your video and tips!!

I love how you take chances, decide it was wrong but then don't panic and somehow get it all back on track! I panic! Just lately I have had a painter's block, I have fiddled too much, lost the intensity of colour, and the worst is ended up with a mish mash of tones, so I gave up. Best paint when you are not tired, have time and inclination. Sigh, you make it look way too easy! Love your calmness and dedication to putting it right.

Thanks for your message, and we all have days when out paintings just don't work, so try not to be too hard on yourself. The reason why I keep calm now is because I have had many failures and have learnt from them. Less is more with watercolour! :)

Simply beautiful! I have been going through your landscape paintings and choosing the simplest ones I could paint. They are so beautiful, yet intimidating to paint. I’m more comfortable with flowers but I want to learn landscape and seascape too. I’ll just keep on practicing. You’re a great inspiration, Karen. Thank you so much for sharing your talent.

Getting stuck when painting from a photo is often a problem for me. I sometimes do make things up from my imagination and it's surprising how sometimes that turns out better. I can draw from photos pretty well, and don't usually get stuck there. Many fine tips in this video. You are a wonderful teacher. Thank you.

Thank you so much! Painting from a photo can be tricky... You almost have to interpret it and not copy... using it as a reference. I love painting from my imagination, it takes all the pressure off!

Hi Karen I just came across your Chanel this is beautiful, I am an artist but usually work with acrylics, and have only just started working with watercolours a about six months ago and am loving the way the paint moves. I painted with your video. It’s my first time doing abstract. I used to think I could not do abstract because of my personality, but you truly made the video fun to watch and follow. Thank you so much Karen! My end result was fun but my tree shadows were as tall as yours with nice shading. Is it because I didn’t use enough paint or should have tilled it longer after praying it?
