Perhaps the very best dish from Bangladesh, (though my fav is Beef shatkora). Hope some native Brits try this recipe. You can find Ilish (Hilsa) fish at any Bangladeshi grocery store. Ask them to cut and debone for you. Saalam bhai: My bari is Borelekha, Im London sylheti and my dad owned Indian restaurants in 19702 and 1980s London!

For all the people complaining about the bones, its the back(goz) of the fish that has small bones, what I do is separate the back and belly of the fish and with the back a make kofta in a food processor and add it to the curry. Bones gone even the kids can eat it. Just like chittol fish kofta.

Sautéing the garlic first gives a different flavour to adding the garlic after the onions. However, if you're cooking a curry it won't be the end of the world whichever time you add the garlic, as long as it has melted by the end of the cooking lol. Hope that helps.

Colocasia esculenta is a tropical plant grown primarily for its edible corms, a root vegetable most commonly known as taro (/ˈtɑːroʊ, ˈtæroʊ/), kalo, dasheen or godere (see §Names and etymology for an extensive list).[citation needed] It is the most widely cultivated species of several plants in the family Araceae that are used as vegetables for their corms, leaves, and petioles. Taro corms are a food staple in African, Oceanic, and South Asian cultures (similar to yams), and taro is believed to have been one of the earliest cultivated plants.
