This is exactly the video I needed to decide to go to a single conversion. I’m running2 mikuni tm38 flat sides on my 83 xv750 so I’m going to look at buying the 2to1 manifold and doing this.

Hello Matt. Sharp looking bike. I have seen the Mikuni installs on others but this is the cleanest. The others used a black goop to seal the manifold to the heads. That turned me off. I will be checking your other videos. The conversion is not on the list just yet. I have a lot to learn but enjoy doing the work myself on my '96.

Recommend watching the second episode of that series. I had issues tuning it. One of the cylinders was being prioritised over the other. I put it down to manifold design. I still have that kit sitting in a box in my shed haha. Ended up converting that bike back to twin carbs but I used VM36s

I designed a manifold that looks a lot like this one, I dismissed it as not have equal enough flow and didn't end up making it, but that seems to work OK. How is it after a short while now you're running it?

Hey mate, no problems at all. Yeah look, I have had limit time on it with the single carb. Basically a few hours of tinkering on a day off. Since I made this vid I Havnt been on It so I’ll have to get back to you on that one! But yeah agreed, the twins would be much better power wise etc. but this bike is going to be a highway hog so I want to simplify it so it’s easily adjustable on the road. The twins are just abit cluttered. I suppose once they are jetted right you shouldn’t need to change anything apart from routine maintenance.

@@mattfranco8715 I think it's almost impossible to adjust them that you have enough power in the low, mid, and end range. That's why I prefer my two Mikunis, even when I have to pull them again. The front cylinder gets flooded, and the valve of the front cylinder's carb must be hanging sometimes. The problem is that it happens sometimes. God, I had them working well for four years after a good rebuild by myself. Now perhaps the O-ring of the valve seat has decreased, I have no idea. Every time I order something from the US, like a K & L carb kit, the shipping is sometimes more than the product. Ride safe and stay healthy!! Greetings from Thailand to all bikers.

I’m having some struggles with the single so I’ve got to do some more testing etc. My computer is being diificult that’s why I Havnt posted any more vids atm. Mikuni make it pretty straight forward tuning wise and include a step by step explanation on initial setup. Thanks for watching and commenting!

I agree. Simplicity is what I was after, but I ended up with 1 cylinder being prioritised over the other which was fouling plugs like crazy. I put it down to manifold design. If I was to do it again (which I most likely will) I will be fitting a KJS manifold.

Honestly couldn’t feel a difference in outright power and the bobber wasn’t really about power anyway. It actually surprised me how much power it did have on the single carb. But all that was over shadowed by the issues I faced.

I think I explained it on my video pretty well. I was after simplicity. I didn’t care about outright power etc. the bobber was always going to be a camping, cruising bike that I could fix easily. But I guess to a degree I can eat my own words because it was NOT simple to tune. I still blame the manifold design but never confirmed it.

Way too low idle. Asking for the cams to seize due to lack of oil been pumped upwards. You will get away with it for a while. Loosen one of the oil pipes at the top and see the different amount of oil that is pushed up between 750 rpms and 1000 rpms.
