How to convert rotational motion into linear motion | Lemurian Designs
Mechanisms used for converting rotational motion into linear or reciprocating motion
1. Linear motion perpendicular to rotational axis
(i). Slider crank mechanism
(ii). Scotch yoke mechanism
(iii). Crank and slotted lever quick return mechanism
(iv). Cam and follower motions - Knife edge, roller and flat face followers with disc cam.
(v). Rack and pinion
2. Linear motion parallel to rotational axis
(i). Cylindrical cam
(ii). Lead screw assembly.

Thanks so much, finally one that makes sense You wouldn't believe this but I used this to make a spaceship in a video game lol
Best resource I've found on this subject, thanks!
You have saved my ass for my design project, thank you!
Excellent, Thank you.
LIfe saver thanks!

The “quick return mechanism” is actually called a Whitworth motion. Used on shaping and slotting machines.
Thanks! 😄
What are the tradeoffs between different designs?
I think I love you.
Hi, I am trying to build a piston. I want to use this mechanic. could I have the measurement of the first one?
Can you make video tutorial roller chain animation with mathematical description?
You could tell the pros and cons of each design.
this music rocks
Thanks a lot for the video 😊 just a question.. where could these applications be found? Like in which machines or engines?

Yes sir, Piston Engine and Jack hammer are using Slider crank mechanism.
the first mechanism seems to be really popular with women too ;-)
Thanks to Al-Jazari. The Muslim engineer that first founded this in the 12th century.
I'm telling you, turning rotational movement into linear movement will help us create artificial muscle
