How to Convert 3-Function Loader Control Valve to Open Center, PBY, and Closed Center Setup

This 3-function loader control valve (with float) is designed to work with 10 to 80 HP tractors without a cab, that have a front end loader with a grapple.

The joystick loader control comes with all the items needed to set it up to match the hydraulics of your tractor - open center, closed center, and power beyond. The power beyond sleeve is included, as are the plugs needed to make it either open center or closed center. This joystick has just 2 joysticks. One joystick, the bi-directional lever, controls the loader (lift / lower) and the bucket (tilt / dump). The second joystick control lever controls the grapple. What's nice about this joystick is the third function for the grapple control is built right into the valve - you don't need to use a diverter valve or press a button to activate the grapple line. Also, as long as your tractor has enough oil flow, you can use the grapple at the same time that you use your bucket, or at the same time you use your loader. The oil is not being diverted away from one function to the grapple lines.
This hydraulic valve also has the float feature, which allows the loader to ride nicely over uneven ground without catching on small bumps. All ports on the valve are #8 O-Ring. If the PBY sleeve is installed, you will need to use a hose with a #6 O-Ring Boss Male fitting to connect to the power beyond sleeve. However, for any hoses that are connecting directly to the valve itself, your hoses will need a #8 Male O-Ring Boss fitting.
Open center hydraulic setup is the most common in tractors up to 80 horsepower. However, many John Deere tractors in this range have a closed center setup. And in some cases, you may want to use the power beyond function depending what else you have going on in your setup.
To set up the valve for open center hydraulics, install the #8 O-Ring plug in the top port, and use the top-side port for the Return hose (the position of the plug and hose can be swapped, if it fits better on your tractor that way).
To set up the valve for power beyond, install the power beyond (pby) sleeve in the top port, and use the top-side port for the Return hose (the PBY sleeve must be installed in the top port ONLY).
To set up the valve for closed center, install the power beyond sleeve in the top port (again, it MUST be installed in the top port ONLY), and install the #6 O-Ring plug in the top of the PBY sleeve. Use the top-side port for the Return hose. Remove the cap on the pressure relief valve and tighten the internal adjustment screw using a hex wrench. Turn this all the way in, then replace the cap.
Either the bottom port, or the bottom-side port, can be used for the Pressure hose, whichever way fits best.
The spool that control the loader has the float function.
This loader control valve will work well with these tractor makes, for tractors that have 80 horsepower or less, and are open station (do not have a cab):

with the pressure screwed all the way in will it help with a slow 3 point hitch?

Does it require lot of force to move the joy stick? Is there anyway to loosen the joystick in anyway to require less force?

A joystick should move fairly easily. There's not really an adjustment to make it operate more smoothly.

So you are turning the relief valve pressure up on the closed center system to max? Also can you reach the small lever without taking your hand off the big lever? I bought a loader for a Mahindra 3016 without the loader valve. I have been thinking a 3 spool valve would eliminate the need for a 3rd function solenoid and at less cost.

For closed center systems, yes, the relief valve needs to be turned all the way in (to max). You do need to move your hand to operate the small lever. We are working on a design that has electric buttons on the main joystick so you don't have to move your hand, but it's not all the way through R&D yet.
