Dont know why Bio Advanced does this but they have two different products with the same name "Complete Insect Killer" that each have different ingredients. Although one of those products also has the words "2 Way" on label as well. That one contains imidacloprid which does kill grubs and is the best grub "preventer" out there when applied in early June. It will kill inmature grubs that develop in July and August. But if you need to kill mature grubs that wintered in your yard and are surfacing in the spring or grubs that matured somewhat because you didn't apply imidacloprid in June and are doing damage in Sept you need the "curatives" carbaryl (in the product Sevin) or trichlorfon (in Dylox) for that job. The curatives will say "kills in 24 hours" The preventatives will say "Season long protection" or "3 month control. You are exactly correct in that Specticde's Triazicide does not kill grubs even though they picture grubs on the label. It's confusing but I watched Allyn Hane the Lawn Care Nut and he explains this and Brian Mounts The Lawn Mechanic talks about the issue with the Spectracide product.

You had me doing my homework on this one. I think I have some experience with those chemicals. The Spectracide I do not have any experience with the gamma-cyhalothrin. I used it once in El Paso, it was okay on spiders but that is what I used it for. Bio-Advanced: Beta-Cyfluthrin and Imidacloprid. That is what you want for grubs and ants. Imidacloprid gets down into the plant once it is watered in since it is systemic. Any bugs that munch on it will have their day. cyfluthrin’s are a quick acting toxin. The higher the percent the worse it is. The bad part is it kills bees. The good part is it kills ants fast even before you water it in. (Imidacloprid and Cyfluthrin) is found in liquid form made by Bayer. It is called Temprid. Great for spraying every three months in the home to keep the bugs out, can do a perimeter spray to keep ants away, also treat trees with to keep beetles and other bugs from invading. remember it will kill pollinators. Bifentrin: Is in the granular Sevin, you may try that for grubs. It kills the moth. It also kills mosquitoes. It destroys ants in mere minutes. Sevin also has a chemical Zeta-Cypermethrin I need to do more research on. I been happy with the results so far. It is the same deal. Bag of granular insect/bug control. And grub killer. I have not seen grubs in my yard but my neighbor has zipper marks from field ants. I used a cup of Sevin and thousands were gone in an hour. This was a few days ago. I have three poodles and three kids so I need to control the pests in the back yard. The Sevin controls mosquitoes quite a bit. There is that chemical Bifenthrin and can be found in liquid high concentration (Talstar). I hope all this helps. Best to you!

The Imadocloprid in the Bioadvanced RTS is best for killing grubs. Bifenthrin is has been used for a very long time for its effectiveness. Carboryl aka Sevin is anothet compound for grub control. I do a Bioadvanced granular in the Spring for grubs or early summer. Then follow it up with the Bioadvanced RTS in the Fall here in Texas for chinch bugs.

That Spectracide definitely kills grubs. I just used it a couple weeks ago. My back yard was all bare ground and it was almost completely covered with little mounds of dirt popping up all over the place. I assumed it was some sort of insect until I picked up a piece of plywood that I was using as a surface for a little project at the corner of my yard, there were a half dozen grubs underneath. So, I went out to Lowes and grabbed something for grubs & insects, they had the spectracide on sale (I had never used it). I put it down when I knew a rain was coming and the next morning ALL of the grubs were above ground! Most were dead and the rest we’re squirming for life. I’d never seen anything like it, it looked like it had rained popcorn on my yard. Thick white grubs all over the yard. Trust me, it works.

I put grubs in two buckets with dirt on top of them, one had nothing in it, one I put the Triazicide on top and lightly watered it in. This morning the ones in the bucket with nothing but dirt are alive and well and the ones with the Triazicide in it are all dead or dying.

I've used the spectracide product and had success with grubs. The chemical does not kill them, but it makes them not want to eat, which causes them die. Technically the study wouldn't be wrong, but it doesn't seem like it was testing the correct thing for our purposes.

@@wazup3333 actually I was somewhat mistaken. The Bioadvanced Complete Insect Killer contains imidacloprid which is a neonicotinoid which makes them not want to eat. The Triazicide does not contain any neonicotinoids, so it must work in a different way. The reason I thought the Triazicide contained imidacloprid is because it says season long control, I didn't notice the "*for ants" part. Neonicotinoids are used for season long control against grubs. I have personal experience with the Triazicide and have had very good and quick results. I cannot explain why the studies had different results.

I was surprised to see that it was killing the grubs almost immediately after I had put it into the garden. Thank you for this post. I’ve been fight grubs since 2003, two new lawn institutions and I still got grubs. For the last 7yrs I’ve used the Breyer product on my front lawn, bottom line it does not work. I’ve used the Spectracide like you, in my backyard to protect my pets from flees and ticks. I’ve seen the new packaging for the old Beyer product but didn’t think enough to investigate the difference as you have done. My grub probably is so bad that now I have a mole problem. The moles tunnel under the lawn to eat the grubs. I’ve almost given up, I used to have a lawn not it’s just grass. This morning I’m on here in search of something to do about grubs and came across you post. I’ve been reading about Milk Spore for grub control. I think I may go that route.

In my opinion after watching the video twice, and hearing you say that BioAdvanced has Bifentrin in it I assume it will kill the beetle that lays the grub eggs. With the Beta-Cyfluthrin and Imindacloprid it will kill other cycles since systemic action occurs. I am not feeling that Spectracide though! I have to do a project to see for myself on that. I can speak for the product Sevin and I know the BioAdvanced has the chemicals in it to do the same. Thar fungus looks as good as gone by the way. Your 4th of July yard will look great. By the way do not forget to use pesticide in the garden beds, critters love to hide in the shade, you are going after that beetle. Cheers💪👍

I used spectraside last year. The instructions say to use between July and October, which I did. Let me start off by saying that I went through a dozen Japanese beetle bags trying to save my garden. While digging a new garden, I was blown away by the amount of grubs I had and then realized that the mole problem was hand-in-hand with the grubs. So, I followed the instructions and used the product late summer. I was blown away by how fast it started working! My husband called me at work the following morning, and said the yard was full of crows and various of the birds eating the grubs as they were crawling out of the dirt trying to escape the pesticide that was killing them. Within two days my yard smelled like a dead animal! The grubs continued to crawl out from deep in the ground, and die on the top level of the yard for almost a month! I’ll be curious as to how many Japanese beetles I get this year. the moles are still tearing up the yard looking for grubs to eat. I hope that they move on to somewhere else as well.

Wasted my money on the spectracide. Getting the bioadvanced 24 hour grub killer now and if it works I'll use their preventative next year. Bioadvanced 24 hour uses trichlorfon that will kill grubs. The bioadvanced used to be bayer and it uses the same active ingredient but could not use the patented active ingredient name.

No grub control product can give you year round protection. 3 months max. Look up best time to treat grubs. Only 2X a year.

I've always avoided Spectricide because it was always cheap. I was watching this video over again, and I heard you say that you've used it in the past. Do you believe it works better than Bioadvance?

Spectracide is a good product for the basic insects but if you want something that can do it all (grub control) bioadvance is a little better at it. But both are good products

Putting down any product at wrong time wont eliminate grub need to get it early in season and again late in season if you have had grub you will need to apply for a couple of seasons to control it both these products will work

@nc2764 The Bioadvanced will handle spiders not the Spectracide plus if you have spiders you would want a liquid to handle them. This granular formula will go on grass and mulch beds around the house but if you want to kill bugs right away get the spectracide spray bug stop that'll do much better
