Unforuantely you do need to buy a device to achieve this:
AirFly Pro or Airfly Duo, both made by Twelve South.

bose connect can be used on Ios and you can start a " listen party"

Unfortunately the Bose connect app only works with old Bose headphones, the QuietComfort SE, QC45 and other newer models use the Bose music app and it doesn’t have that feature.

Can u still control the volumes independently? And can u pair different brands at the same time or do they need to be the same?

Different brands are no problem. Independent volume only if the volume is controlled by the headphone itself, no way to control each volume on the iPad or airfly.
