okay so for everyone that it isn't working: after you connect the HDMI or whatever you're using, hit windows + P and a tab should pop up with 4 options. and from there select whichever you want. for example you can select duplicate so it shows on the TV and laptop or second screen only, which is probably more battery friendly if you're not plugged in edit: you might have to change your screen resolution if the TV is older, not sure tho tbh

Most TV's have an Input button on the side of the screen. No remote needed.

It automatically play but if I put my laptop on mute, it mutes the tv

+Cindy Hedelin sometimes you actually need to go in the display settings on your laptop(right click on desktop and there you'll see display settings) and select the screen you want to use

In settings there are usually more HDMIs(like HDMI1 and HDMI2), try each one of them.

Of course you can, if your settings allow you to. Fix the settings so that "closing the lid does nothing."

ItsMyGame100 Check your input source on TV by using your TV remote control or side panel on TV. You need to have the correct HDMI port selected as your input source.

Check the spec's for your laptop. You may not have a HDMI port but only a spot where one might be placed on the next laptop model upgraded from yours.
