When building a desktop computer you need to connect the power light, power switch, reset switch, hard drive activity light, a speaker for error code indication, front panel USB ports and front panel audio. So this video will show you how to install them with help from your motherboard user guide. If you need help with any of these connection or anything else to do with computers leave a comment or contact me through computerhelpmadeeasy.ie
Note:If your not sure which wire is the positive? All you need to do is check the back of the connector that's attached to the two wires and you will see an arrow which indicates the positive wire on that connector (This is shown on the hard drive connection in the video). You can also check with the manual that came with your desktop tower unit or check the tower unit manufacturers website.

Thanks for the input on my OLD Dell update on the Dell front panel to my new ASUS H97M-plus motherboard w/32gb Dimm DDR3 . I removed the little green Dell switch and removed the Dell wires and connectors and installed new I.D. bit cables. (like your video) I had to adjust the ID of the new LED holes in the front panel with a step drill so the switch would fit. And then add a small square hole for the reset switch into the front panel and the setup was complete. Now I need to add the speaker ID bit cable jack. Today I'll be installing a new atx 750 watt power supply, a R/W DVD, 250GB HD, and the old HD with the new connection to Strata cable. You have been a great help. Thanks for your service. I'll keep watching for new stuff. I am trying to build a 3D Design graphic system for CAD/CAM to CNC setup. Thanks Dezrat.

Kevin Colleran This part has always confused me as well. How do you determine positives and negatives? The manual doesn't say anything about it, just where to plug them in. The video explains it very well, but all motherboards are different and these cables are sometimes different colours.
@KevinColleranCHME

I agree with you! They are types of front panel connectors with no standard way of installing them! But in my experience all connectors in the front panel of a case have little arrows indicating that it's the positive! that's a standard that is adhered to here in Europe. And as far as i recall it's that same in the USA! Hope that helps! Here is a link to a video I done a about a 18 months showing you the arrows on the connectors if you want to have a look the front panel connections are shown @ 38 minutes into the video kzread.info/dash/bejne/hHurmrBtoqqZcaw.html

Kevin Colleran Thanks! I live in the UK by the way. :P I knew about the arrows, but the manual and the mobo did not identify the positives and negatives for everything, though that was before I realised "grounded" was basically the negatives. I got the PC working in the end. :)

Ya It can be a bit off putting, the way the manual identify the connections, the companies just don't care all they want is your money! It's nice when you can work it out for yourself though! I find that there is nothing we can't do if we just put our minds to work! Good for you bud!
thanks for your kind words, I'm glad it helped

Ok thank you very much. I dont have the problem with the front panel audio connection. I have already found that one and pluged it in. My question was about the ac 97 that was attached to the same cable that the hd audio was, as i didnt see it in any internet guides and there is nothing mentioned about ac 97. Thanks again :)

ay am spick in spanish, Hola, hablo español pero, entendi viendo gracias, sos una gran persona, que Dios te bendiga.
Hi Rashid, first check your audio jack is plugged into the correct jack plug, this plug is "green". the next thing to check is did you build the pc yourself if you did then check that you plugged in the audio connector to the correct internal connection on the motherboard. Last thing to check is test the rear audio jack first that is again the green jack plug then see if you have audio. If you think they are all ok then uninstall driver and restart your pc that will install default audio.
I'm glad you got it sorted

yes JFP2 are usually for "extra" front panel connection, if you're case does not have extra connections, then that's fine. so just connect up the connections you do have. hope that clears it up for you.

best explanation ever.
I will be using the same HDD and motherboard the only things I will be replacing are the case and the power supply along with an additional GPU so the windows OEM licence should be intact. Thanks for the tip about trailing the pin colours back to the switches, I managed to use a screw driver to figure out the pwr pins by shorting the two that turned it on so that should hopefully not be a problem. I'll just have to figure out which one is the the HDD led once I get the new case and psu.

+Serial Killers Documentaries Hi Bud! Do a search for connecting the front panel audio buy using the motherboard model number! There is bound to be a guide somewhere on the web...OK!
re-use is always a good idea, you do not need all the connectors you have mentioned above like power led, but speaker is important. Check the motherboard it may have one built in, but you can get away without having it. The thing is if there is a problem with your system you will not here any beeps that can indicate that there is a problem without having a system speaker it's purpose is to i beep a few times telling you there is a problem. you should get one for pennies and just plug into mobo
