i know this video is older but it was just so helpful for me,,, i've had my apple pencil and ipad 9 for over a year, and all of a sudden completely forgot how far the pencil is supposed to go into the charging port. this video helped refresh my memory on what it's supposed to look like when it's in all the way. thank you!!

I’m losing my mind and tried everything. I bought a brand new pencil and it connects then the moment I take it out of the port it disconnects. I’ve attempted to let it charge but it won’t connect long enough to allow a charge. Mine will only connect for a few seconds then it’ll stop when I take it out to use it also it doesn’t prompt me to learn about the pen.

I purchased one that was listed as "acceptable condition" and was a little worried about what it would look like. However, I am pleased with its condition. The back has some scuffs and a small dent near the logo. There are a few tiny marks at the bottom of the front of the ipad but the condition of the screen is perfect. There are no scratches or anything. I was able to set it up, use it, and it charges fine. I'm hoping it continues to work well for me. So far it was worth the purchase. Also shipping was fast. The item came one day earlier than expected

I just tired and brought a new one apple pencil

Today happened really strange thing that I’m not able to describe: when I enabled Bluetooth on my iPad 9th Gen my Apple Pencil connected without plugging it in iPad charging port and it was working as usual😳 I tried to repeat the process - no result, just had to plug Pencil to iPad.
