If you have a mixer you may not need to purchase something like a usb audio interface to record into your PC desktop or laptop because most computers have line inputs. You may simply need to get the correct cables and set up the correct settings inside of your computer to get clean audio inside of your computer so you can record podcast, and voice overs for your videos.

    Great Video! Unlike the ones that gave me headache for not using camera stand. Question though, if I can plug in my mixer to a computer directly, would I still need USB interface to record guitar insturments or mic audio? I was able to do it and sound is still fine.

    Mannn. Thank you, sooooo much for doing this video. I've been having so many problems trying to figure out why I wasn't getting an audio signal from my "Tape Outs". Your video helped me figure out that I needed to plug into the Blue "Line in" on the back of my P.C. I was using the Microphone in, and It wasn't working. And, so many of these other videos failed to explain this; which is asinine to me, seeing as we live in a computer age. Not to mention that they are long winded and repeat themselves too much. You're a good teacher. I wish I could pay you to come to my studio. Thanks. Your knowledge has been invaluable!!!

    What AMS-CSGO said. Are you using a dynamic microphone? If you are using a condenser microphone make sure that you have the 48v phantom power on if that is what it calls for. Is the volume of the mic low when you use the mixer by itself? Like if you use headphones with the mixer? Need a bit more information to answer your question properly.

    Hello & thanks for all your tutorials. My question is: I recently purchased the Xenyx Q802USB for my home based recording studio. I record music thru my two keyboards on cubase. Does this particular model mixer "with USB interface" suits for multi track recording?? If not, then I also own a bit older audio interface (Alpha Lexicon). Will I get an excellent audio quality & multi track recording on cubase if I first connect my two keyboards to the Behringer & then use Lexicon Alpha as the main audio interface to my pc/DAW (as suggested in one of your videos)? Thanks

  • @cryora

    @cryora

    I think it will be roughly the same, because the ADC (analog-digital converter) in the Xenyx USB has a sample rate of 48 kHz. I couldn't find any information on the bit depth however. The ADC on your computer's on-board sound card is likely going to be 48 kHz. If you want to record at a higher sample rate and/or bit depth (like 96 kHz or 192 kHz rather than 48 kHz, and 24-bits rather than 16-bits), you'll need an audio interface. This is sort of the dilemma I am in, because my laptop does not have a line-in port for stereo input, so I'm looking into audio interfaces. To me it's overkill, because the mixer already fulfills a lot of the functions of the audio interface, and the only thing it's missing is a high quality ADC. I may have to do it anyway in the future. As for whether or not 48 kHz is enough, or you need 96 kHz or even 192 kHz is another discussion. For most purposes, it should be enough. If you want very high audio accuracy esp. at the higher frequencies of the human hearing band (like 12 Hz to 20 Hz), which you can look up samples for and hear how they sound, then you may need 96 kHz or higher. On the other hand, sound quality can easily be affected by things like vibrations in your microphone mounting or background noise, so unless you deal with those problems, a move from 48 kHz to 96 kHz might not make a difference. I suppose it's good to future-proof yourself though.

    @@MatthewStratton if you haven’t done a video on the “ground loop isolator” you should ! I had a hum and had to search KZread to fix my ground loop and that product fixed it! It would probably get a lot of views!

    Hey Matt. Thanks for the video. What you are doing seems very straight forward but I'll be damned if I can get it to work at my end. I'm using a Behringer Eurorack UB1204FX-pro. I've got the audio side set up and the green light levels are touching zero. I've run a cable connecting the tape out phillips jacks to the computer inputs trying both front and back, and line-in and mic jacks but no luck. I've opened up my Win10 sound controls. It shows a device plugged in but no bouncing bars in it. I am familiar with this and have used Audacity for years. That doesn't mean i know everything though. Its an old mixer so I'm not sure if it's 100% functional. Thoughts??

    Do you get any signal on your mixer? Does your mic need phantom power and do you have phantom power turned on? You need an XLR cable from you mic to your mixer.

    Unfortunately I have a laptop and it doesn't have a line in port, and neither does its docking station, only a microphone in port, and that is mono. So I am going to try and solve this by getting an external usb sound card with a line in to act as an analogy-digital converter. I can only find sound cards that record at 48 kHz max, however. It would be nice to have something that can also record at 96 kHz. Does the USB version of the Behringer Xenyx series have a 96 kHz option or even 192 kHz? I'm afraid I may need to get another audio interface in order to get 96 kHz.
