    Is the red and white coax sending an analog information to the AVR? So that means that the AVR will be converting to digital with its DAC? And if you're using toss link on the DVD player it's a digital information to the AVR so the DVD player is converting it with its DAC?

What color hookups do I need to hook up to get the audio on the stereo system to play? And what color hook up do I need to connect from the dvd/cdplayer to the stereo system. I'm not sure what the audio in and audio out means. Can you please help me? Because I don't know what to do to get the stereo system to play music from the dvd/cd player.

    On the back of the DVD/CD player connect the Red/White to the Red/White Audio OUT.....then....on the back of the stereo....connect the other end of the wire to the Red/White Audio IN. When you are playing a DVD/CD, in order to hear the sound coming out of the stereo you need to make certain the stereo is "set to" the Audio IN you plugged the wires into

    We had a 5 disc cd player which has been hooked up to our sound system and tv.It died, so we purchased a single disk blu ray player. If we just want to listen to music, we must turn on the tv, etc, etc, etc! RCA will only play 2.0 stereo, never 5.1 surround or better. For that you’ll need either toslink optical, digital coaxial or HDMI surround signals to be carried over to your gear

    On your amp, you have optical, coaxial and analog, to get the sound from the TV, you need to get the audio out from the TV, you need some jacks on the back that say something like "audio out" or the optical out.

    I guess the theory is that a CD being a digital source doesn't need to rely on the player to do any converting. The identical digital signal reaches the AVR without any noise or interference changing the information in any way. It's also smaller and neater. Whether you'd actually hear any difference though...

    Can I wth an Onkyo cd changer hooked to a Yamaha receiver via Tosslink hear surround or only stereo?

  • @Allabouthomeelectronics

    @Allabouthomeelectronics

    6 жыл бұрын

    "if" the audio track on a CD was encoded onto the CD using a "surround sound encoded signal" then YES, its effectively only a Toslink cable connection that is capable of transmitting a true surround sound signal to the receiver. If however these are simply music CDs often encoded with "stereo" (just a 2 speaker, left right signal) then perhaps an Analog Red/White (Left/Right stereo) cable would be preferred BUT to hear sound from ALL your speakers you'd adjust a setting on the Yamaha such that the Yamaha plays sound from ALL speakers (aka: not true surround sound)
