How to comply with UNECE - Automotive Cybersecurity

In 2020, something happened that will lastingly change the automotive world: Cybersecurity is becoming relevant for homologation - because, in the future, no car will be allowed on the road unless the manufacturer can prove that the vehicle series has been developed in a secure manner.
In this video, Dr. Thomas Liedtke - Cybersecurity Expert at Kugler Maag Cie - talks about the regulations on Cybersecurity by the UNECE WP.29 and what this harmonization body expects from manufacturers and suppliers.

Hi. Dr. Thomas, This is really informative video. Thank you. One Question, is the TISAX and ENX are similar one with respect to Automotive TIER 1 Supplier?

very good video and well presented! Thanks here is a question wrt UNECE WP29 and ISO 21434: is ISO 21434 standard is kind of a subset or addressing the requirements that CSMS of WP.29 defines? And that way a car OEM would have to comply & certify to both ISO 21434 as well as WP29?

Hi Akhilesh, the OEM has to fulfill the UNECE WP.29 requirements. As a base (as you mentioned correctly) you can use parts of the ISO/SAE 21434 (like clause 5 or 7). But this is not mandatory. If you have a look into the interpretation document of the UNECE WP.29 documents, ISO/SAE 21434 is mentioned as an example. An OEM will need the certification for UNECE WP.29 only, no certification towards ISO/SAE 21434 (even not comply, he can fulfill UNECE requirements without being compliant to ISO/SAE 21434. Of course, in practice, he'll try, but it's not mandatory to reach the UNECE WP.29 certificate. We hope, this helps you further!

Very informative video! However, I’ve a question. Is there any relationship between ISO21434 and the latest ASPICE Cyber Security Process areas and how do we relate both of these?

@Nutan Tiwari Thank you for your question! The relationship will be explained in the Automotive SPICE for Cybersecurity training in detail (it’s not so easy 😉, the structure is not the same one by one). You can have a look into the latest blue-gold book of Automotive SPICE for Cybersecurity: vda-qmc.de/en/publications/. There you can find some information. We hope this helps you!

Hi there, UNECE regulation No. [155] is capturing all CSMS requirements like regulation No. [156] is capturing all requirements for a SUMS. This is not independent, you need CSMS in any case. I hope this answers your question! - Greetings, Thomas Liedtke

Does this Regulation also count for accessories? For example a trailer module?

@Bryan Kobe Depending on the market, there are further specifications such as the GSR (General Safety Regulation) for the EU. This lists the type categories accordingly. These are defined and described in further UN-ECE regulations. In case of doubt, the National Authorities are responsible for providing information. We hope this answers your question!
