    I think going from 14" to 16" wheels on the Vanagon, this step is important when rebuilding cv joints. I've done several and they seem to not last, as perhaps the larger wheel/tire size introduces a steeper angle on the shaft creating stress on the joints. Thanks for this revelation👍

    Changing the Wheelsize has nothing to do with driveshaft angle. Think about it another time 😊

    I have just overhauled & Reinstalled the CV joints for my Holden Commodores rear axle shafts but since the outer CV joints are a non plunging type & the inner CV joints are a plunging type they didn't need to be clocked but 3 out of 4 CV joints were fitted back to front so I had to refit them the right way !

    That's good because they say that CV joint clocking isn't critical in a street car but I have been wondering why I have been going through the inner CV joints in my Holden Commodore,I haven't been clocking them !

    Thank you, very much! I don`t know that and I think many "mechanics" do it completely wrong! I will do restoration on my VW Golf Mk2 soon and I rebuild everything myself, because I see "work of mechanics" after they "repair" and in Latvia we have big problems with mechanics. My VW Golf of 1983 live because I do all jobs mostly myself. Thank you!

    @@Italjohn Yes, it is very very useful! I can tell my story. Here in Latvia we have very bad roads, because of poor EU country and roads are destroyed in 6-8 years (econony on the expensive ingredients and not proper technology). New road - perfect is bad after short period of time. Everywhere is holes on the road surfaces and we have disaster situation in many directions (last year very many roads New ones!) was destroyed by absolutely improper surface treating with small stones and some kind of "glue"... This "glue" and stones fly away and I get 22 holes in my cars body! It is something... and "country roads" which are simple roads without asphalt are destroyed by the hard machines which transport wood bricks... In this situation my old vehicle is going bad very quickly. "My friend mechanic" sometimes do small jobs for me, when I don`t want to. But... after he 1 year ago change CV axes (wrongly) I get the same "problem"... ticking on the left turn... Your video open my eyes. Thanks!

    2:11 the manual says to use a hydraulic press ( because it’s a tight fit ) . Why are you able to remove it that easy ? Is it because its a different design or are all like this ( also stock ones ) your answer will be appreciated!

  • @Italjohn

    @Italjohn

    Some are hard to get off, and some are easy. I think (don't know) the high quality ones are harder to get off. This was the cheapest axle I could find at brickwerks, so I guess you get what you pay for. I just want this in the car for spare/emergency use.

    Italjohn13 will be good for emergency use . I love brickwerks as it gives you a huge variety of parts (and qualities) . I always get original and OEM as I had a bad experience with aftermarket parts ( at the end it was always more expensive than just getting the genuine part )

    No not really. But some say it's important to put them back the same way you took them out. If they are brand new it does't matter wich way you put them.

    @@pierrej8069 Both sides of the axels are buildt the same way, you just need to get the "ring" on the cw joint on the outside. Regarding the same way as you took them out has to do with the twisting of the axsel rod. If you flip them around the twist will be the other way and that could weeken the steel rod.
