This is my second one. We have it outside the garage door exposed to the elements yearound kzread.infoUgkxreK_FUQ74_bylFqCr3y2MHqL3u78-b3r Direct sunlight deteriorated the plastic on the thermostat and severe winds blew the lid off. We found it about an acre away. I bought a new one and I saved the good parts from the old one as spares. Got about 8 years out of the first one.

I use a degreaser called Super Clean either foaming sprayer or regular spray bottle . A video some one else put on U tube . The stuff is inexpensive at O Reilly's auto parts . It softens even backed on fast . Just re wipe surfaces with a clean wet rag when finishing up. I pull out the removable parts lay them on a plastic dog crate tray . Spray with cleaner and then pressure wash Done! Their rep in Minnesota said it can be used to pre treat grease spots on clothes as well . Worked perfect.

One mistake people make is they assume a smoker must always be squeaky clean. When hot smoking it's better to just scrape out the buildup inside (with a stiff 1 1/4 inch putty knife) and do a wipe down with a wet cloth. Just remove the heavy gunk especially near heat areas and above food. Never use nasty chemical cleaners. Personally, I don't use steel wool. I think it leaves behind steel particles. You just don't want a fire to start inside the smoker. Smokers aren't ma's kitchen stove.

DO NOT PUT THE GRATES IN THE DISHWASHER!!! I just had to replace mine because the Cascade takes the chrome off the racks. Cleaning is important if you are cold smoking cheese. The humidity mixes with the smoke residuals and makes big black spots on the cheese when it drips.

Hey Sam when you have a new smoker first hand wash all the components individually and dry to get off that factor manufactured outside. Then assemble smoker and run on med-high with no chips for a 1-2 hours. Then add chips/pellets and cook for 1-2 hours. This cooks off/breaks in the metal and the light wood cook may seem extra but I find it does help with the flavor on the first cook! Enjoy

Try seasoning your smoker every time you use it with top grade Marijuana. Invite you family, friends, Cheech & Chong, and neighborhood residents. Stand around the vent of the smoker. Play the Woodstock, or a Jimi Hendrix CD in the background, and breath DEEPLY. Plus, the Marijuana flavoring inside the smoker will inhance the taste of your smoked food so well, that it will give you a bad case of the munchies. When that happens, your smoked food will disappear even faster, even the bones- and your guests will help you clean your smoker, by licking the Marijuana residue off the inside and outside of the unit. It's a "Win-Win" deal.

I used to clean my smoker this well. It's waste of time. Soak the grates for a few hours not 10-20 minutes and you can use a regular dish brush and sponge with a scrubby side. Steel wool shouldn't be necessary, but buy stainless wool if you are going to use something like that. It actually looks like thats what this presenter is using. Cleaning the catch pan, water pan, chip pan and chip loader that well is just silly. All that work takes the fun out of smoking. Kind of like using my food processor...cleaning all those parts makes me just use a chefs knife instead.

Not trying to go against your video here, but honestly I recommend never cleaning it. Sure clean the racks and places your food actually touches but u never want to clean the walls. Some places actually have smokers that have been going for over 100 years, not electric but it takes years to develop that creosote smoke coating and u need that. I always wondered why my smoked meats never had the great flavor of this place I go to in our area, and they took me on a tour and showed me their smoker has rocked for over 100 years and there is just absolutely no reason to clean it. I guess if build up was falling out the bottom u could scrap it, but never use any kind of chemicals ever just trust me on this, mines been rocking for several years now and I swear the flavor is incredible, less work + better product what else do u need.

  • @SmokeTrailsBBQ

Yea as long as the meat isn't touching the walls it's fine. All personal preference. The problem is when it starts flaking down onto the food if it gets really bad. Again, it's not going to kill anyone, but it is a carcinogen and the less of that crap we eat the better.

  • @TrueLifeAdventures
