How to Clean Leatherman Raptors.

Ғылым және технология

I have had my Leatherman Raptors shears for over two years. I love them but keeping them clean can be difficult. I will give you a couple tips on cleaning them. I also go over a few of the features I use the most.

I like it when you do follow-up vids to the equipment you use. Makes a difference compared to other channels and their reviews that tend to be one-off type of reviews.

Thanks for the video. Iodine, as long as no one is allergic, Goo Gone, bleach water are all great in cleaning the tool. I use an AR brush. It has the big bristles and also the small. Not to mention that it also works great for cleaning my firearms, can put Kiwi on my boots, Chapstick on my zippers. Imagine that... One tool for multiple applications. Huh! Great video once again!

Great video . With sani wipe if you leave scissors wet with Sani wipe for atleast 2 min will help to disinfect. Also if you use a dollar store spray bottle and put half that bleach water mixture in it , you can use that as a rinse . With MRSA , Covid . C-diff will not clean with bleach alone , you need a scrubbing action than rinse with your bleach . Question bleach is corrosive would knive oil work to protect scissors. Nurse perspective. Great video as always and great community . Stay safe . Ps when cleaning scissors with tooth brush do it inbetween a towel so did does not spray all over . Ty

I use pointy foam Q tips from Amazon. The foam doesn’t leave any fibers behind and when you dunk the q tip in a cleaning solution the foam absorbs it. In addition, you can clean the q tips in a degreaser, rinse them in hot water and reuse a few time.

Now I’m 17 and I bought one of these about a year ago. Kinda looked into EMS for a minute and later that month I done a job(I’m a carpenter and I work for my dad) for the head safety instructor for the tribe. He noticed them and talked to me for a minute and he got me on a ride along later that next month. Off topic but the window punch on the raptor does work very well. We had a car smash for my class at an event in our town called hay days, in one or two hits it shattered the back glass and the strap cutter made fast work of the belt inside(my buddy agreed to pretend to be trapped inside)

Great video, thank you! I would suggest complete submergence in your chosen disinfectant. Use a large SS pan (or similar) and fill it at least 2-3x the depth of the item to be cleaned. Then scrub as you suggest. Continue to dunk often in the solution, as you scrub. I would guess a sonic cleaner might work for frequent cleanings.

I still use mine all the time. At the station, I usually carry them in the holster, as the holster holds them high enough to get them from under my turn out trousers at an mvc. at the hospital, it varies as I don't tuck in scrub tops, I either use the pocket clip, so it rides low enough to be accessible, or some of my scrub pants (Carharts), have a short strap just below the pocket places the scissors about like a thigh rig.

I have a pair of these in my 1st aid kit even though I'm not a medic & I've found that they're getting dirty in the folding pivots at the bottom segment of the handles (the area near the locks) & I was thinking of using wd40 I didn't know you could use bleach to sanitise them

After I clean mine I like to use gun oil on it to keep it from rusting. I will spray it on then wipe it down with a dry rag. just to get a thin layer of protection. I know how most people will not be for this idea for obvious reasons but if I'm having to use my shears on someone then they have bigger problems, that and the fact that I try to avoid open wounds.

You can take them apart by unscrewing the Torx fastener where the scissors pivot and where the seatbelt cutter pivots. They're designed to be taken apart for easier cleaning...that's why there's not a security Torx on those specific fasteners.

+Ken B (Medic30) maybe it was a tungsten ring? I've seen that w/ tungsten rings the best way is to use a vice (or similar) to compress the ring which then fractures.
