I've ordered the kit and am l'm looking forward to trying it. I don't know if you've tried this, but I've had some luck with green shoe polish paste to add some patina back after I've cleaned a coin. It doesn't always work, but it does help with the green patina we all love. It can be found on line easily.

Did you know there is a sharpener in the top of the cleaning pencils. I don't know how long it will last on the black tips but I manly use the white tips myself and it does a good job on them

@@HolzhammerLite Ultrasonic Cleaning Ultrasonic cleaning can be aggressive. Test different materials of junk relics to see how they respond to ultrasonic cleaning before applying it to a museum quality artifact. Wood, aluminum or very thin soft metals should not be ultrasonically cleaned. With an adequately sized and quality ultrasonic cleaner, 5 seconds to 20 seconds should be enough time to remove the dirt. Longer periods of time will expose pitting on the surface of the metal and remove the patina. The power and the efficiency of the machine dictates the time period. I would lay the artifacts on top of a perforated silicone mat or non shedding fabric to allow debris to fall away and to protect the artifact from vibrating against the metal tray. Metal trays may cause damage. Use distilled water. Use cold water to begin with as it's less aggressive. Add a few drops of a surfactant like Jet-Dry, but be careful as a surfactant can speed up the process. Be careful of detergents that contain acids. The volume of water is very important for an ultrasonic cleaner to work properly. Use the amount of water that is recommended by the mfg. The mass of the water and the power of the ultrasonic horn are engineered for optimal performance. An untested idea that I have is to place the artifact into a pool of baking soda. It will be much more aggressive. But it might be appropriate for some types of metals with a certain type of corrosion.

@@pigeonbloodruby5330 thank you very much for all this information. I have a sonic (jewellery) cleaner which I use occasionally with a small amount of success, but I do have to repeat the process often to remove the hardened crud. I now have access to an industrial sonic cleaner so will take on board your comments before using it. Thanks again.

@@jayday1463 Awesome! I used to have access to an industrial ultrasonic cleaner too. It could quickly disintegrate aluminum foil. Then one day it had a melt down. :) Good luck!
