How to Clean Fireplace Glass (Get Rid of White Film on Gas Fireplace)
What's better than fixing your fireplace? A spare car key without leaving home! I started Tom's Key Company (tomskey.com/?Tomah...) so you can get quick and affordable DIY spare car keys and fobs shipped to your front door.
If your fireplace has that white film on the glass, it is easy to clean it off with a razor blade and glass cleaner. Razor blades from Amazon -

Sorry I didn't take a "before" picture of my fireplace - it was covered with the white stuff.

Hubby was afraid to take it apart, so I did it myself, thanks to your very helpful video! All done and put back together in about 20 minutes!
Followed step by step - WORKED GREAT! been staring at that foggy glass for 6 years; it's clean now. Thank you!
All other videos say to never use ammonia based glass cleaner. It's what causes the white haze.
Perfect! Just saved me $200+ to have it done. Hope you show more about turning off gas, and turning back on, pilot etc. Great help for we out here who know zip about this stuff. Thx!
This was so easy! My fireplace looks brand new! Thanks!
I was told by the natural gas provider to remove the glass and wash the windex off the glass using soapy water. He said it's very dangerous to use ammonia on the glass fireplace. There is a white cream specifically for fireplace glass, but he as the sure if the glass stovetop cleaner will work. I think I'll use vinegar and water.
Thank you so much for taking the time to do this video. I have been trying for years how to figure out how to take off this glass cover. I finally thought to find a possible youtube and found you. Thank you!!!!
I had half the front panel removed before I decided to find an easier way. Thank you for helping me locate the two lower clasps below glass frame! Super easy. Appreciate the help.
So incredibly easy! My clamps were on the right side, but as I knew what to look for it wasn’t an issue. I also cleaned the glass with lemon oil, as it’s much quicker than a razor blade with build-up ( make certain it’s fully dry before use).
I just wanted to thank you for posting this. Our fireplace glass was horrible. Our fireplace is a Lennox instead of a majestic, but the basic method of disassembling it was the same, I just followed your directions. I used glass stove top cleaner instead of a razor blade to get off the milky color, and then windex, and then distilled water, with great results. I think next time I will look for the appropriate cleaner from home depot, thanks to Mack Grants suggestion.
What is not mentioned here is the glass is a ceramic glass and CANNOT be cleaned with products containing ammonia. If the white haze is left for long times it becomes extremely had to remove and you will not get it all off. Never tried a razor blade before but I have tried every cleaner for fireplaces known to man and NONE will make it 100%
I got through everything and was glad to find out how to get the glass off this fire place. I am having a really difficult time getting the top grill back on - The hooks do not line up with the slots.
Thank you - nothing in the manual and the screen has been dirty for a LONG time - plus there was a dead moth!! Clean now - THANK YOU!!
Adding some tips from my experience.
Easy to follow to take apart!!! Finally got it back together start from top to hook on and hold bottom so glass stays in place with the seal
Great instruction. I thought I had it figured out and started removing some screws. Then I watched your video, much easier. Thanks for the instructions.
You gave me the confidence to get the job done. Looks NEW!
These are outstanding directions . Saved an hour of my life. The written directions were crap. Than you! Kathy from Wausau
I used Ceramybryte cooktop cleaner and worked great!
This was about how to take off the glass or to clean the glass?
