I hope you won't mind my adding that Oxyclean works well for vintage clothes, too - a tip from Robert Tonner. And, also, you can use a travel steamer instead of ironing. The steam takes the wrinkles out and leaves the garment fluffy.

Oxyclean is what I normally use also Melissa, but at this moment I'm out :( So I guess I will use a light laundry detergent, and baking soda, and see how that works :) But thanks for the help of steamer to get the wrinkles out :)

Thank you everyone for confirming that OxyClean is a great option for washing doll's clothes. I normally use OxyClean when I do laundry and nothing works as good, but I typically use it with hot to boiling water, so I'll have to try it with cold water. I've watched several videos of people washing dolls and their clothes, hoping to see someone using OxyClean. I've been going through my old Barbie dolls, separating mine from my sister's and some of the dolls and the clothes could use some special attention. Thanks again!

@@susansparke3462 Hot water always helps re: stains/dirt, but hot water's required (it appears) to melt OxyClean. If doing so, maybe let the liquid cool before putting in the fabric, as hot will shrink cotton, and possibly damage other fabrics. In any case, thanks for the mention, as I didn't know if it was gentle enough for this purpose.

One if my favorite parts of "the hunt", besides finding a great doll, is bringing them home and washing them and their clothes. It's like a ritual with me. They get cleaned up and then they go with me to "the doll room". I introduce the new doll to the others and find a place for her to sit or stand in her forever home.

Rachel, I was watching this video while I'm waiting for my boyfriend to pick up our Valentine's Day Dinner! It's really interesting how Linda cleans the clothes! Although my dolls are a little more modern, for my bigger dolls,I would put their clothes in the washing machine and put it on hand wash setting for, but for my Barbie dolls, I just do them by hand or just let them go completely! Thank you for these tips on how to clean doll clothes and I'm so looking forward to watching your other videos in the near future! I hope that you and Derek have a really beautiful Valentine's Day together!

to help dry just washed clothing, place the clothing in between 2 or one large white terry cloth towel and hand press so the towel absorbs the water. for heavily soiled items, lay on a flat surface, cover with screening and vacuum with a not too powerful vacuum.

Ivory dish detergent works great to wash Barbies, I also like using Method dish detergent it’s very mild. For their hair you can use dish detergent as a shampoo and then some oil-free conditioner, especially if the hair is dry.

Never put them in the washing machine. When I wash vintage bright doll clothes I use Woolite hand wash detergent and very cold water, and I put one of those shout dye absorbing sheets in the water to protect any trim on the clothing. If there no trim then you don’t need it. Don’t let it soak for too long because the color tends to bleed with those old fabrics; just swish it around enough to get the suds through and remove the garment, roll it in a dark colored towel and press down on the towel to get most of the water out, then reshape and air dry. If the clothes are sewn on the doll I would still use woolite, or liquid ivory soap.
