When first getting a puppy, get them used to your hands in their mouth, ears, eyes and paws. Some dogs are better than others, but get them used to it at a very early age and you'll have less problems when they get older.

My dog Sasha may she rest in peace passed away in 2013 was a Westie schnauzer mix. She absolutely love to have her ears clean! She would literally lay in my lap and put her head down for me! I could use my tweezers, Q-tips, cotton balls you name it to clean her ears! She shake every once in awhile, but most the time she just fall asleep. And she absolutely love to go to the groomers! And in our house, if you ran the bath water or the shower, you'd have to keep the door shut otherwise, she'd be in your nice warm tub of soapy suds / bubbles or she's going to take a shower with you!

I came to stay with my mother who has a dog that lives outside recently. He had a horrific tick, flea and mite infestation and they couldn't understand why none of the treatments they were using were working. They never looked deep into his ears to see the volume of bugs in there and all the poop. They just kept perpetuating from the ear then colonising the rest of the body. I filled the ear with diatomaceous earth and left it for two days then came back and removed all the ticks and poop with tweezers. It took over an hour and I removed 70 odd bugs. We now have a happy dog.

@@vinoto That's the way things are in that country. They live in poverty. Nobody does vets, vaccinations etc. I told her straight up when I got there don't get animals you can't take care of. There was also two cats and a parrot which died shortly after I arrived and they're lost 6 dogs, a cat and 2 rabbits in 7 years though 3 of the dogs were to poisoning, 1 to a car accident and the 2 rabbits were sick when they arrived. But everyone out there has a dog to watch the property and they just live outside and eat kitchen scraps

Well, your approach to cleaning and commenting is refresh! Saw another channel where the groomer yanked the ear hair out and tried to say “I promise” it doesn’t hurt guys🤦🏾‍♀️. And the way the groomer spoke to the pet was rude. Didn’t like it at all! You’re much friendlier and approachable with your “clients”😊.

As a groomer.. you are taught NOT to befriend the dogs. Because it is a job and they need to learn how to behave. When you’re extremely friendly with the dog, it makes them realize that they can be in charge when they absolutely can’t. Yes being calm is key, but sometimes you ABSOLUTELY have to be stern because if you aren’t they could get hurt from the shears or clippers OR you could get hurt. Until you actually are grooming a very frustrating dog (because most dogs don’t want to be groomed) you will not understand.

Tips on finding a groomer: I used to do those steps as a dog groomer assistant. This groomer did an excellent job, such attention to detail. Unfortunately dog groomer salons don't always take time to be that careful and thorough and kind, so everyone please do your best to find a skilled, gentle, thorough groomer who is deeply respectful of dogs and not overly rushed. Interview a few. Look for reviews and word-of-mouth recommendations. And really observe them with your dog and ask to meet any assistants too and ideally to quietly watch the grooming nearby (but stand back and quietly let them concentrate!). Don't fall for people who seem nice but then when the human client isn't there they are impatient, grouchy, rude, etc. Just being real! Hope that helps someone. Mobile groomers are also an option. Or one-person groomer businesses where they get to keep all their own money, are less distracted, it's quieter for dog thsn a busy salon, and they likely will be the only one handling your dog.

You know what you said is so right on. But it seems like ever since this Covid crap nobody wants to let you watch anything anymore. The vet I use to go to still to this day has you park out front and comes out to get your dog and brings the bill out side to get paid. Then they bring you back your dog. I quit using them because every single time I go there they have another appointment ready for you. I’ve had shepherds for 30 years and was in the room with the vet every time. Now you have no idea what they do to your dog. Everyone seems to be doing this. I don’t like it.

We had a Newfoundland that was always getting ear infections. Our vet said sometimes food allergies will cause the infections. The vet did an allergy test and it showed he was allergic to chicken and corn and vet said a lot of dogs are allergic to chicken. Almost all the commercial dog food and treats contain chicken and corn. Once we got rid of that stuff, his ears were so much better. We found a dog food and treats at petsmart that didn’t have any chicken or corn. Watch the ingredients in treats also.

Then soothe my voice telling Balu “mama make a fuss outta ya. So I wanna be sure your ear is clean as a whistle.” I showed him and let him “sniff -approval” what I am abt to do. I used my fingers just like your demo but i wiggled and gently tugged. Few hairs came out! Balu was little hyperventially . I again talked him out of it. He stopped hyperventially and started to know what was his mama doing. I showed him after I “pulled”. He laid back and relaxed. I did the procedure powder rub then wiggle/tug - about maybe 1/3 out. Slowly and surely it works. I didnt yanked out. I didnt pulled. But wiggled and tugged out. Then I used pincher. For small dirty dirty hairy. Same procedure. He himself yanked but not upset with me. Not chunk but good few hair.. wow I told him, “Wow u make mama so haaaaaappppyyy!!” His tail wagged. Clean up with Ear wash baby powder scent with tea tree oil and cotton ball wrapped tye pincher- I continued to show him what I am about to do. He “lick-approval” my hand. Then I cleaned it out and it looks so good!!! Few hairs in canal but i can see “the hole”! I remembered you said few is good becuz catch the dirts and foreigns from going inside the canal. He dozed off!!!!!! I repeated with that cleansing method about four. 3 with Ear wash then last one nothing but itself to wipe more off the dirt. I did not do the other ear. I may do it tomorrow. Anyway I thank you, Ruby and the group for this video!!! Made me “do it!!” and I did it!!! I want Balu to trust me so that he can doze off while I do the ear cleansing. 🙌🏽👏🏼🙌🏽👏🏼🙌🏽👏🏼🙌🏽👏🏼😁 Any correct from you, Ruby is welcome! Any more tips you have regarding to this. Please share! I am patting my back. I am proud of me. Not coward anymore. Little bit is good.

My poodle used to chew on her ears till they got matted. We got her groomed regularly however they must've not cleaned in her ears because we took her to the vet, told her about the issue... turns out she had a dreadlock in each ear! We've since switched from the chain pet store groomers, no more mats...no more dreadlocks.

Wow thanks so much for explaining everything. I have a standard poodle and my wife got him and she passed away a couple years ago. Now I’m taking care of him and I miss a groomer appointment once in awhile. But had no idea about how much attention the ears needed. I’m starting to worry now but I’m gonna have to get in there and do it myself. Very straightforward video man. I’m on it now. Might have saved my dog a ear infection. You made my day. ✌️😂👍

Good video thanks. From I've studied the dogs ear drums are not straight down , but more like a 90 degree L shape bend. So not as easy to puncture or hurt their drums compared to our earlier drums , which are straight down the canal.

I found your video as my 8 month old Cocker Spaniel currently has an ear infection, possibly caused because he's always swimming, and wanted to know how to keep his ears clean once his treatment of ear washes and antibiotic drops is over. Thankfully he doesn't have hairy ear canals as I don't think he'd tolerate plucking as he's a real fidget, but I've now trimmed all the excess hair from the underside of his ears and behind his ears to allow more air to get in there. He has his check up on Thursday and I'm really hoping the infection has cleared up, he's my third Spaniel and we've been very lucky about not having ear infections until now, I just hope it's a one off, but will definitely continue to trim all excess hair from the underside of his ears. Thanks so much for this informative and clear video of what to do xxx

Right 😂 we have an Airedale and it is a blooming rodeo when I do his ears, which always is an issue. I have to pull a few hairs everyday and wash once a week, but about once a year we have to do antibiotic drops and wash for a week or so. Anyway during these times there is a good amount of tears and bloodshed. Haha MINE. This dog is sooooo good

This dog was so calm with everything this guy was doing to his ear. Why hasn't someone made silent, non-vibrating dog clippers? How hard can it be to get that product to market? I do question why the dog's parents don't do a better job at cleaning his ears. I would clean my cat's ears once a week. Done while the cat is sleeping. I cannot believe I watched nearly 14 mins of dog ear and never saw the full dog. smh. Come on Rudy!
