How to clean bottles and home brew equipment with bleach

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

I'm going to get a lot of hate for this one.
I usually use bleach to sterilize my home brew stuff. So far no obvious side effects except I get to keep more money in my pocket and my hair is turning white.
I must stress that it is important to rinse your bottles out.
Back in the late 80's the US government suggested that junkies should clean out their needles with bleach to help stop HIV infection. This is where Nirvana got the name for their first album.
I don't always clean my bottles this way, I sometimes boil them. Perhaps I'll do a video about that some time.
Sorry for the lack of videos recently. We have half a dozen videos filmed, just haven't edited them etc... The truth is my job eats up so much of my time and then after work and on the weekend I'm so tired from it. I'm pretty bummed out honestly. I have another year contract at this place then I need a change. I really want to get out of this city and buy a small farm.... We will see what happens. Honesty, I dread going back to work after the holidays. And for a whole year" god. This is no way to live.
In Brisbane or anywhere else in the endless suburbs of Australia friends live so far away.
Big thank you to my sister T-dawge for drawing this thumbnail for me. If you want to her to draw pictures or thumbnails for your channel let me know.
Love you. Be good.

When I was doing ginger beer last summer, I sterilized my bottles, caps, etc. with bleach. The way I was taught was to fill them up with a mixture of about 1 tbsp bleach to 4 litres water and let them sit for 20 minutes before rinsing. A little time intensive, but it worked very well for small batches.

One bit of advice. When @sarchasmo57 says to use gloves, DO IT! I use bleach for sanitization and would spend quite a lengthy time rinsing until I no longer smelled chlorine. The last time I brewed I leaned over my carboy to smell for the presence of bleach and found none. I then picked up the carboy to double-check and was subsequently hit full face with the smell of the bleach. I was severely perplexed,so I handed my then fiance the carboy and asked her if she smelled the bleach. She responded in the negative. Long story short, my equipment was clean. It was my HANDS that smelled like bleach! USE GLOVES!

I would do a primary rinse, then a vinegar rinse to react with any remaining bleach, then do a few rinses to get rid of of the vinegar. A few nano-drops of vinegar is better than a few nano-drops of bleach

Ah, a fellow seaman, ahoy there. Thanks for the info, I'll look into it. Vinegar is probably better for the environment too. It's a little strange though, bleach being alkaline and vinegar acid.
