I use "Simple Green" to clean off the gunk. It works great and very quick. I use it on my blades and bits too. Simple Green does not affect the rubber parts either.

The cautionary about lacquer thinner near some rubbers and plastics is true so pay attention. I once dabbed a bit of LT on the outside of my $30 metal exterior mechanical pencil to remove some ink that leaked from a nearby pen. The LT seeped into the shell joint and totally destroyed the threads on a rubber or plastic spacer shell inside making the pencil useless. Talk about mortification! 😮😢

Very nice, i appreciate you taking the time to make this video. My portable band saw kept slipping and my google search led me to this video. Even tho im cutting steel and the lube tubes i use are the reason for the slipping, i still dont see any reason for your tips to be any less relevant or effective

Don't know if this would work but there are solvents for removing tree sap from high end clear coated vehicles. It might be something to check out. I don't own a band saw "yet " otherwise I would try.

I use a half and half solution of liquid laundry detergent and water to clean the gunk off my saw blades. This should also work well on the tires.

Ask the manufacturer or do a google search of polyurethane rubber. They may list which solvents are ok.

Not that it’s that difficult but, I wouldn’t necessarily take the wheel off. Removing the blade may be a good Idea in order to get good leverage on cleaning the tire. Idk, really guess it all just depends how bad they’ve been neglected. Probably not going to help much but I’m currently adding a couple of brushes to my top and bottom wheels, why not🙂👍

I appreciate the video, but respectfully suggest using a dishwashing detergent/degreasing agent such as blue Dawn, some hot water, and a fingernail brush- a good scraper for very gentle removal of any hard crust, some citrus based hand cleaner (petroleum free, like Fast Orange),and some elbowgrease. Introduction of chemical solvents will degrade the rubber, shortening its lifespan. I have been tempted to use naphtha, etc., but stains don't affect the performance. Better to avoid any oil products, despite their quick and easy use.

I find acetone to be much better at dissolving pitch buildup than lacquer thinner or mineral spirits. Does anyone know if it's to use acetone use on a rubber bandsaw tire?

This seems much ado about nothing. Take the blade off. Wet some folded up paper towel pretty thoroughly with mineral spirits. Press the wet towel against the tire and rotate it by hand 2-3 times, maybe more if it's really gunked up. Done.

Hot soapy water works even better...putting any kind of chemicals onto a rubber band will degrade it...I guess promoting degrading the tyres on a bandsaw earns brownie points with suppliers...!! Don’t do it...
