Go Walmart and buy some "Chore Boy" copper pads. And use some gun oil. Works great and no marks left.

Rust and pits are not caused by use in the field. They're caused by lack of basic maintenance. A gun that's kept clean and lubricated doesn't rust. And why on earth are you scrubbing with a bronze brush before disassembling the gun? Are you only interested in addressing the outside of the gun? What about the locks and triggers? What about the extractors? And why use such a brush in the first place? There are far better methods for dealing with rust on an old gun or a newer gun for that matter.

@wildamericanarchery5129 what brand and model ? In general you need to take it apart, HOWEVER, some models don't go back together easily at all & may require special tools, you can use any solvent once apart brake cleaner works . gentle with 0000 steelwool & 3n1 oil , some guns require expert cleaning, what makeis it ?, stay away from the wood, try to keep oil off the wood, just a cotton rag with lemon oil ,

"Kind of high value" lol I hate to tell you my man, but that's a cheap and very common old double barrel shotgun. I wish it was actually worth more than just sentimental value, but it's not.

W&C Scott & Son Shotguns are not anything to scoff at, very good guns and go for a pretty penny when in good condition. Not sure where you got your info, but it’s way wrong.

"I hate to tell you my man, but that's a cheap and very common old double barrel shotgun. I wish it was actually worth more than just sentimental value, but it's not." W&C Scott, Later W&C Scott & Son were a highly regarded firm of gun makers in Birmingham England. Their guns were not cheap and today are certainly not common. In good condition, they are still highly valued by aficionados of classic shotguns. The last iteration of the firm, W&C Scott (Gunmakers) Ltd. was thought good enough that it was purchased by none other than Holland & Holland.
