    Great video, I'm not very mechanically inclined but I not only fixed my carb but actually felt like I understood what I was doing. I found myself narrating in my head like you were which is a sign of a good teacher, kudos to you brother also protip: Like he says, REBUILD the original Mikuni carb. I bought a chinese carb off Amazon for $14 (yes $14 lol) and the main jet was size *145* and all the others were wrong size lol. Cleaned out the Mikuni and my Beartracker runs flawlessly, with the peace of mind that there's no Chinesium shitting it up haha

    You are one of the very few that exhibits patience and the desire to teach the next generation how to maintain something worth fixing instead of throwing away and financing something new. I've cleaned dozens of carbs from various toys, but your video reminded me of the additional features of this particular mukini carb. I'm going to make my 15yr old son watch your video very closely and let him have a stab at cleaning his carb all by himself. Keep up the selfless act of passing on your knowledge of the trade!

    Excellent video. You were right about the plastic spacers that go on the metering rod. When checking the one in the rebuild kit, the one that goes bellow the clip was twice the thickness of the stock one. After rebuilding my carb, the machine ran like crap and would only run while choked. I tore it back apart and followed your video. I couldn't find anything I had done wrong until I checked that spacer after you mentioned to use the stock one. I scrounged up the stock one, put it back together and runs like new now. I guess that extra thick spacer in the rebuild kit put the metering rod way too far out of spec. THANKS!

    This dude is awesom. I just bought a second Mikuni and just cleaned it as best I can, why do I say as best?because I've hammered the flot pin quite a bit but she wont move! Don't know what the previous owner did looked like he knocked it flat or something 😡. I'll get myself a carb kit later, anyhow I've put the carb on and she idle fine. Start up immediately. Luckily it has a 95 main and 42 pilot jet in. My only issue is my current throttle can't feed far enough so I'll get the original cable soon. Thanks again for your informative videos I like it. Many blessings for your channel! 🙏

    Hey great they are good rigs and every time I’ve had one for sale people almost fight over them! Be sure to check the boot that is between the carburetor and the head for any cracks they are very prone to do that and cause vacuum leaks that make it run terrible, don’t buy a cheap one online the have never lasted me more than a month or two get a Yamaha part it’s worth it! • @rackbid
    @rackbid2 жыл бұрын

    YOU fine sir are one heck of a good teacher!! Your explanations on other problems to be aware of are also great in addition to the carb job. 99 Bear Tracker here that wouldn't run right. I must have watched this video a couple dozen times before I tore into the carb with a rebuild kit. I too was intimidated with what seemed like hundreds of parts and screws and seals, etc. You made it easy. I have to admit I had to rebuild mine 3 times before it ran. 1st time just used spray can carb cleaner - No change (started and idled only). 2nd time spray and compressed air - No change. 3rd time spay, compressed air, and brushes and needles through all orifices - Runs like brand new!! I also admit I bought the cheap Amazon intake boot before I found this video. It's been on almost 2 months with light use and still working. Any specific symptoms to look for when the intake boot fails? Just cracks in the rubber? Looks like the OEM intake boot is only $38 at Partzilla right now.

  • @holleyoff-road3554

    @holleyoff-road3554

    2 жыл бұрын

    Hey man thanks for the encouraging word I really appreciate it! If your intake boot starts to crack apart the first symptoms will be like an occasional puff sound at idle like and hard to start and then just run worse and worse because it causes a vacuum leak that makes it super lean

    Hey your very welcome I love teaching people how to fix things and you can do it! It seems intimidating at first and I remember about ten years ago a man showed me how to clean a carb on a Honda rancher 350 and I was like this is so complicated and now I have done around 200 carb jobs and they really aren’t that bad, and don’t forget to look for cracks in the boot that is between the carb and the motor and if it is cracked get one from Yamaha, I have never seen an aftermarket one last more than a month, have a blessed day Jesus is Lord!

    Not much to add here Sir :0) - Props to you and your cameraman. So far, the most knowledgeable and clearly presented video I have EVER seen on this subject - obviously you have done it a 'few' times before! Nice pace and presentation, along with a host of 'bin there, done that' tips, all of which are really appreciated. Question for you if I may? Just about to tear into my YFM250, starts easy, idles well, dies when you give it gas - runs on half choke. Think this might be a blocked pilot jet.... aftermarket carb (yeah, I know) not sure how to remove the float seat, seems to be pressed in and no hold-down screw. Any areas you would be concentrating on cleaning, as I know there was a host of crap fouled the fuel system? Thanks again, for the time and effort you guys put into producing this video!

  • @holleyoff-road3554

    @holleyoff-road3554

    Hey man thanks for the words of encouragement! Your float seat won’t come out, if it would there would be a screw holding it down, in that case I use half of a q-tip in a drill, with a tiny amount of fine valve lapping compound on it and just a few seconds and the float seat will be shiny inside, also be sure the intake manifold boot is not cracked because they almost always are have a blessed day man!

    Hey I’m so sorry it took so long to get back to you. I like to use a paint can opener, it is kinda like a flat screw driver with a bent tip on it, you can just angle it and slip it up inside the seal and normally pull it straight out or use a screwdriver to pry it straight out, then clean the shaft from any debri, I like to use a scotch Brit’s pad before putting the new seal in, get a deep well socket that fits the outer diameter of the seal exactly and use that to drive it in with a little hammer

    Outstanding video! I was wondering if you would give me your opinion on something? I started to rebuild my bear tracker carb when i realized that it is a piece of chinese crap. First question is that when I took it apart I did not see an o-ring in the mixture screw bore or on the needle.. is that normal for a china made one? The second question is after I had adjusted the float per your instructions, the needle float retaining clip keeps getting hung up on the Float tang and it wont seat so it so floods. Any ideas on either of these questions?
