    My friend, you used a magnet to reposition the abs sensor screw. Those abs sensor usually work with either a magnetized inner bearing seal or a ring. Bringing another magnet near to the magnetized seal or ring can demagnetize them which will manifest as later as the abs sensor not able to determine if your wheel is turning or not. This can set off abs lights and traction control. Running an obd code will tell you abs sensor not picking up signal and if you replace sensor you will continue to experience issues not realizing it’s demagnetized bearing seal or wheel ring. Both replacement parts not too expensive but can be time consuming because you have to remove rotor and hub. Save yourself a big headache by simply avoiding bringing magnets near those bearing seals or rings. I’m just saying 😉

    A single application of a weak magnet doesn't magnetise the screw, and even if it did it would be very weak, and easily conducted in a tight loop, to insignificant range , by the large mass of steel it grips into... but even if there was a a slight magnetic field from the screw, so what ? The sensor generates the magnetic field anyway and the teeth on the hub causes variations in magnetic field which the sensor detects.

    @@leong108ether way you can just put a small piece of mask tape to the head of the bolt/screw, that’ll make it fit tight in the socket preventing to fall. I’ve found that method better than magnet anyway

    If cleaning results in it not working do a resistance check on both sides. If you get no reading of ohms on one side it means it is open which is a broken circuit. If the other side say reads 3 M ohms or 5000 ohms or whatever it means the circuit is closed and the circuit is working... Replace the open sensor. If both sides read the same then you could have a problem with your tone ring or wheel bearing which has the the magnet built right into it OR no voltage issue which is another issue to deal with. you can turn your ignition on and check for voltage not on the sensor side but on the other side of the connector(not the sensor connector). Both sides should measure the same voltage say 12 volts or right around 5 volts. If no volts on both sides then you may have a blown fuse. If one side shows voltage and the other side shows nothing(0 volts) then you could have a broken wire. Then you look for broken wire and if that wire shows no break it could still be broke on the inside. Then you need to do a continuity test which is a resistance check for that wire. There is more but I'll stop here' The multimeter is the instrument in these cases. Votage ohms amps etc... is what multimeter is all about. If you don't know what you are doing take it to a back yard or good mechanic. You easily could get screwed on this. You can also get specific scan code readers for abs or airbag for these problems...Any way good luck

    After reading this, the offer I have from chain store mechanic to examine everything for $90 seems very reasonable! Especially for one who is not mechanically inclined. BTW I have a Ford Fusion Hybrid. I watched close to 10 videos and could not help but notice they all showed the problem was in the right (passenger side) rear wheel. The last video I saw the mechanic actually stated it occurs there..no explanation as to why though, but could save ya a bit of time and money by starting there.

    On some cars rust on the hub pushes the sensor out slightly which causes the abs to come on unexpectedly and intermittently. Remove the sensor, plug the hole so dirt does not get in (I have used the tip of a q tip) and clean the rust off the hub with some Emory cloth. Shop vac the hole then reinstall the sensor. A little light spray of white lithium grease will prevent the rust from coming back too fast.

  • @leong108

    Does it ??? Does it have to be so accurate ? I think its the steel particles in the greasy deposits that causes the sensor to be deaf...steel dust in the gunk shorts out the magnetic field... its like the tooth of the axle is permanenty sitting at the sensory.. ie wheel is stopped. so yes a good clean up helps, but not because of the alignment of the sensor.

  • @thomassciurba5323

    @thomassciurba5323

    Жыл бұрын

    @@leong108 I think it is sometimes the distance from the teeth not the alignment. Yeah it doesn't take much, like maybe .005" or even less. The holes are pretty tight so the rust pushes the sensor out and away enough to miss picking up on a tooth rather than out of alignment side to side. Then you get that intermittent low speed ABS actuation when you should not. Likewise cleaning junk out of the teeth is not a bad idea but they have to be pretty packed (like out to the tip of the teeth) with iron filings for the same reason.

    No. the sensor does not make noise, it cannot squeak, nor does a squeak interfere with the operation the sensor. If you are in a snow area, then you are likely to have damage from collisions AND from corrosion front to back .. so its not worth discussing. you can use ODBII diagnostics to find which sensor is reporting the error. OR clean them all ?
