My plumber did not recommend installing isolation valves seven years ago. After having water runs cold mid-shower getting more frequently in the last one year, I’d decided to do it today. No pump, no isolation valves, i managed to finish it within two hours, for about two dollars, and never hat cold shower again! Simply turn off gas supply, turn off and unplug electric power supply, run hot water taps dry, and you are ready. You need two flexible shower hose with suitable threaded ends (usually 20mm), a large plastic syringe of 100-200ml ( if you don’t have electric water pump or electric drill-driven water pump), bucket, vinegar (1-2L will do). Usually inlet and outlet hose are of rigid copper tubing. Now it’s the fun part; To seperate copper hoses, you’ll first loosen their 20mm nuts, both inlet copper tube and outlet copper tube. Next, remove copper tubes sideways by lift the heater upwards for a few millimeters by loosening its wall mounting screws (loosen a few turns ONLY! Not removing them). Now, fasten shower hoses onto inlet and outlet. Outlet hose into bucket of vinegar (1-2L will do). (PROCEDURE WITHOUT PUMP) Inlet hose’ open end placed higher up, about the same height as top of heater. Use syringe to draw vinegar from bucket, pump vinegar into inlet hose’ open end. Repeat for a total of 100 repetitions ( that’s about 10L of vinegar flow, from the same amount of vinegar in bucket, recycled), this can be done in an hour or two, with a helper preferably. You’ll see vinegar turns to green tinted color. Then purge all vinegar (properly). After that, its about flushing out vinegar residue with clean tap water. Find ways to inject clean tap water through inlet hose (garden hose will do), for a few buckets full of clean water out through outlet hose. Then its time to reinstall everything back. Remove shower hoses, both inlet and outlet. Reinstall copper tubes, both inlet and outlet. Gradually turns water back on, check for leaks at both inlet and outlet. Wipe clean everything. Turn gas back on. Dry your hands. Plug in and turn electric power back on. Check for hot water at taps everywhere in the house for continuous flow of hot water, and you’re good now.

My hot water stopped working and I had reset it as most videos displayed. Desperately called 6 plumbing companies with estimates over $300. This video saved me the costs and I wanted to say Thank you! I have the Tritan Tankless Water heater same as the video and found all the sediment when treating it in the same manner. I appreciate people that make videos for those who want to learn and save a tremendous amount of money scammed by companies. Thank you, this method worked immediately on the tankless electric water heater after you attempted reset! 👍🏼💯 #Homeownerheroes

Just a small 3 filter set up from home depot would really help alot. Im in water filtration as that's what I do for a living. If you dm me I could send you a simple set up to install on your incoming water line.

Do you have a dedicated pre-filter ? bet that would cut a bunch of the solids out of the picture. Great video dad !

The heater has one on the inlet. The problem is when you superheat hard water, it creates a lot of scaling. I will soon post video of an electronic descaler I installed, but I'm still waiting to see if I recommend it after testing it long term for the video.

@@FarmDad- We had a place where a water softener company tried to sell us on their system. When they came to measure the elements in the water, the numbers were off the charts ! We ended up buying the big jugs for drinking and just got used to the hot water tank needing replacement every two years.

Is there any other easier way? Don't know about plumbing but what if one puts the vinegar in a bucket that is threaded thru the heater, the same way cold water is threaded thru it? Or is that impossible. Help a sister out. LOL

The easiest way is to buy a flushing kit.

This was about saving money, not ease. Flush kit cost about as much as this mini electric unit.

Unless you make over a $100 an hour, pretty sure this is worth the time 😜

Well, when it fails in 5 years vs 15, then a new tankless heater will cost more than $100, and you wasted time as well. 😂

Oh you know, I just have 4 kids and 11 animals to care for, 90 acres of land to tend, plus a house I'm building, but yeah, lottts of free time. You do realize that by the time I called, scheduled, and waited around for a plumber to come and clean this, I was able to just do this myself just as quick and save a bunch of money at the same time.
