How to clean a sig sauer p226
Спорт
Part of owning a firearm is care and maintenance. Cleaning a Sig P226 is a simple process and needs to be done properly.
The excitement of owning the Sig MK25 was realized when I picked mine up from my local FFL. I immediately took my new gun to the range to try it out. There is a big difference in handling the MK25 in a store and actually shooting one.

Sig 229 / 226. Absolute classic! A total pleasure to shoot! And last a lifetime. They're expensive but worth every penny!

I agree. One of the best pistols made.
Thanks for the step by step video and the brush recommendation. I needed a refresher. These guns are work horses if you take care of them right. Sigs were built to fire 400 - 500 rounds between cleaning. However, I’m not at war and I prefer to clean each time I use it. Lol. Agree about taking care of what you’ve got!

Thanks for the great video. I am mainly a Glock guy (have 7 Glocks !) and my 226 MK25 came in today. Love the feel of this firearm, and will be giving it a whirl shortly.

Great Video. New to gun ownership and my first is a Sig P226 MK25. This video became my bible for disassembly and cleaning. Really appreciate the step by step instruction. Keep up the great work. Thank you.

@@BoomStickTactical I think so too! The only problem now is I want a second and a third one. I know you said you carry your P226 but for me that is just too big. Thinking of either a Hellcat or a P365 Maybe the XL. Gotta do more research.

I also made the P226 Extreme my first gun. Paid a pretty penny for it here in Ca.
Good video, l watched it to clean my P245 which l bought back in 1999. Last year l bought a lighter P365 striker fire to carry while in town, after decades of carrying the .45 the P365 is a much better and lighter gun to carry so l retired the .45 for home defense in the bedroom. I had my Sig 45 in the bedroom inside the holster between the mattress and bed frame with the handle sticking out for easy access, l pulled it out the other day and it had a little rust on the slide and the slide was catching. Gave it a good cleaning today and it works like new, thanks.

Rem oil is an excellent product for cleaning and lubrication. However, I have found, particularly on the classic Sigs (P226/P229) that Enos Slide Glide, light gun grease, applied to the frame and slide rails, prevents galling. It is fine, for also the outside of the barrel. Unlike gun oil, which dries in a short period of time, Enos Slide Glide sticks on the pistol surfaces for a long time, using a small brush.

I have a sig sauer p226 legion (9mm luger) but everytime I clean it and shoot it at the range it gets what I believe to be the "stovepipe malfunction". Everytime I start shooting the casings get stuck on the ejector, which I think it might be the ammo type. Any suggestions on what it might be? First time gun owner here.

Make sure to clean under the extractor very good. If there's a lot of buildup under it that could be part of the problem.

You are most likely "limp wristing" it. Have a firm grip to absorb the recoil. Sounds to me like you were so relaxed when you shot that's why it jammed - the handle pivoted backwards in your hand.
Can you explain why you do not get any solvent on the firing pin?
@BoomStickTactical
4 жыл бұрын
Sure. The solvent and lubricants can attract buildup and make it harder for the firing pin to function. This will cause light primer strikes
Great vid, will definitely use for my cleaning. Would you say this is a major cleaning or a basic/bare minimum for keeping the performance up?

This would be after getting quite a few rounds through it or if you didn't plan on shooting it for a while

@@BoomStickTactical ok thx for quick answer 😁
Great Video, I bought the MK25 in FDE as my first firearm and just took it out for the first time to the range, shout 240 rnd's, I have a couple questions. is there a difference to products to use on the FDE vs. black? should the slide rail/grooves have a grease applied? I read the MK25 chrome lined barrel certain cleaners will break it down over time? thanks again for posting. PS. went to range with my buddy a Glock guy and he was very impressed with my Sig after shooting 2 mags through it. he brought his Taurus 9 and a Taurus 1911 45 and let me fire both. now I am a novice but in my opinion there was a huge comfort and feel to my Sig over his 2 Taurus's. very happy with my gun

Theres no difference in the fde and all black as far as I know. I've seen seals in carrying both.
Nothing wrong with giving it a good amount of oil before putting it away for storage. I will clean/relube everything that I dont use every 3 months or so.

I thought that you are only supposed to push the cleaning rod/patch through the bore in the direction of the bullet.?
@BoomStickTactical
5 ай бұрын
It really doesn't matter which direction as long as you make sure it's clear
How often do you clean your pistol? After how many rounds would you recommend?
@BoomStickTactical
Жыл бұрын
It varies. I often hit it with some clp after every range trip. Occasionally I will fo a deep clean after a few trips
You need to grease the rails not use oil… just saying these wear out fast with just oil.
