How to clean a Series 1000/3000 Philips Shaver

Ғылым және технология

Amazon USA/Can/Europe - amzn.to/36FLfyF UK - amzn.to/35kzRI1
In this short video I show you how to remove the foil and cutters from a Philips rotary shaver. This is a 3000 series shaver I am using, but should also work for the 1000 series models too. It has been noted that some might want to keep the same position for the cutters/foil. However these never touch each other so I have not seen an issue just removing them and cleaning/re-fitting. You can if you want keep the matched pairs for each of the 3 cutters.

    This helped immensely when I was first attempting to clean the shaver heads. It made a huge difference in the quality of the shave. But after a time, it did not seem to fully handle the cleaning. There was a gunky residue building up in the heads. (I'm thinking this is due to the use of electric shave before shaving.) I found running a q-tip just around the edges remove that nicely. I used a can of compressed air on the main part not shown in the video to make it "factory fresh". However, today used a brush there and am in a pickle now. Somehow, i dislodged the front latch. I managed to reinsert it, but it wont hold the cover down now. I discovered a tiny spring had also come off. Any ideas on how to get that back to working order so it stays latched?

  • @MrBazReviews

    @MrBazReviews

    6 ай бұрын

    My latch broke there is a small plastic part which holds it in place which came off. I had to claim a warranty replacement from Philips because you can't use the shaver (well you can sort of if you push it down!) You might have the same issue, the spring is just there to push it out, if it's broken then the plastic tab will keep falling out. To be fair to the company I did get a replacement from them (same model) the warranty is 2 years. I would check that to see if it's broken or not.

    TIPS: HQ9 Shave heads fits perfectly in other philips shavers as well. Using them in my s3110, had the same ones to my old shaver that had two shavers instead of 3, and a removable head, so it seems like all philips heads are the same. Dunno if it actually makes a difference, but 3 rings instead of 1 must do something. Bought em cheap from China as well, 15€ or something... I suppose the "foil" might be a bit thicker than Philips expensive ones. My Braun S5 shaves A LOT closer and faster (straight edge), so there just might be a limitation with theese circular heads overall...

    I WAS TOLD THAT THAT THE CUTTER AND FOIL ARE MATCHED AND SHOULD NEVER BE MIXED. IS THAT NOT THE CASE?

    I heard that but I've never seen a problem mixed them many times no signs of any issues. The cutters never touch the foils, but if you want to keep the matched up to you

    Hi, it is not necessary to take the knives out of the machine to clean them effectively. Instead, fill the bottom of a plate with warm soapy water so that the knives are covered, turn on the shaver for half a minute. Then let the knives run for 5 seconds in clean water and the machine is clean. By the way, you shorten the life of the knives by mixing the knife and "holster" randomly around. Knife and "holster" belong together throughout their life.

    What I have found is that even blasting water through and soaking, sometimes larger hairs can get stuck in there. So maybe it's worth doing every couple of months taking it apart. I doubt mixing them will make much of a difference considering the cost of the 1000/3000 series shavers for what I paid it's cheaper to just buy another one v the official cutters/foil replacement

    @@MrBazReviews You do not have to think about the large piece of beard, it is automatically chopped into smaller pieces and comes out with the other beard pieces you cut. The reason it is necessary and washing the cutters is to remove the fat that is sitting in your beard. If this is not done reasonably often, the machine may not cut properly. It's not every day I hear a man saying he having too much money for to avoid holding the same knives and "holster" together. \;-)

    Nice unit thus far... Replaces a two-year old Philips Aquatec that had the problematic results of water getting into the inner mechanism that quite a few have experienced...Very poor design for something Philips claims that can be used in the shower! This one's construction seems a more solid for a wet/dry overall... Major differences between the two are design, no "Lift and Cut" blade system on this one, and no replace blade indicator light, neither of the latter two I'll miss... However, the 3000 does have a pivot under the heads for facial contours, and much more detailed charging indicators...where the Aquatec did not on either... We'll have to see how "watertight" this one actually is... This time, I purchased a two-year retailer warranty JIC... Cleaning on the 3000 is just like my former unit - Open up the unit in front, take off the head assembly, and then undo the triangular retainer to get at the heads... I usually clean my heads once every two weeks... It is actually important (even according to Philips) _to keep head (foil) and cutter together, as they are made as matched sets_ , so clean each set individually, and make sure _you return that particular cutter to that head_ before reinserting into triple head holder...

    I've doubts about the "Matched set" big time why because they're all the same, nothing matched about them. You can get replacement cutters and foils individually, and as they're all machined to the same spec it makes no difference at all. I've replaced foils and not cutters never seen any difference in performance or wear. It's alright so far I'll see ow it lasts. The other point to make is the cost of this (where I got it) is hardly much more than the replacement parts kinda pointless buying them might as well get an entire new unit!

    @@MrBazReviews - My thing is that "Wiil this newer design keep out the water on a supposed 'wet/dry' unit?" The previous one sure didn't, and when I took the damned thing apart, you could see the damage from the water getting in with the corrosion on both the switch and capacitors, and rust all over the motor... No wonder the thing didn't turn on, nor take a charge, and I only had it for two years and only got it wet when washing it out after each use...Never did I use it in the shower! When I purchased the new one, I did not see anymore of the 3000 Series (US iteration of the 3000 was known as the "Aquatec") in the old design, so I'm thinking Philips finally listened to their consumer feedback, realized that the water problem was commonplace, and changed the design... We shall see...

    @@Jhihmoac I did see a tear down a while back not sure how old it was the shaver, but it showed the battery/motor/switch compartment enclosed in a plastic case with O ring type seals on it, obviously something has to keep water out or it would fail pretty quickly. How good the seals are only time will tell. I do use it wet quite a bit - and there are so many variations on the same shaver, it's difficult to know when they were made. So far it's a nice enough shaver I guess the next 6 months will be revealing!

    @@MrBazReviews - Also, I recently found out that this particular design of the S3000 (and S2000) that feature the larger on/off switch, more prominent battery charge indicator and "5D" floating pivot, would be manufactured for right now in Philips' home country of Holland, as opposed to China, where the other cheaper models of Philips Shavers are mostly made... I had heard that when they had redesigned these models because of the leak issues, at least the first year (2020), Philips was going to make all of them in Holland just to make sure the water leak design issues get taken care of before they transfer them back to Chinese plants for manufacturing...
