How to clean a Savage Axis bolt action rifle. Note Cotton swab clean is done from the rear of barrel

Please like and subscribe. While I was doing the cleaning with the cotton swabs I should of done it from the rear of the barrel just like I did with the bore snake. Not the front.

One thing I would recommend is when using the swabs, instead of going in from the front of the barrel is to go in from the rear.

Yes, you can definitely do damage to the crown of your barrel.. always push your cleaning rod from the rear towards the muzzle !

The bot alignment issue isn't correct for the axis II XP, the long side has to go to the right.

Rule #1. ALWAYS clean bores from action to muzzle. When the swab comes out of the muzzle don't drag it back to the bolt end. Start again with a new swab from the bolt end and push the swab in the same direction that a bullet would travel.

My savage does not have a lever near the bolt. It has a button near the trigger guard that needs to be pressed while you hold the trigger down. Hope this comment helps someone with the same setup as me.

For some odd reason my bolt doesn’t wanna come out after I press both mechanisms(trigger and the lever). I took my gun to the range this past weekend and my gun wouldn’t shoot some rounds. The pin would mark the round but it wouldn’t set it off. Also sometimes that lever (that you pressed down in order to release the bolt) moved right when I pull the trigger when shooting and stops the ping from striking the round. Can you give me some info on this as to why the gun lever moves and doesn’t let me shoot? I just bought the gun and it’s new. I lubed it up at the range and I couldn’t really shoot a full clip without problems. Even the trigger would get hard.

If you just bought the rifle brand new I wouldn't work on it, it could void your factory warranty. I would take it to the retailer you bought it off or call Savage Arms customer service.

It's hard to know what the problem is without looking at the rifle but the feeding problem could be what I spoke about in the video. You said you cleaned the rifle previously, so I guess you were able to remove the bolt before. So if the firing pin isn't striking the primer enough it could be the spring inside your bolt or wondering if you put to much lubrication on your bolt. Also if you are at an outdoor range with temperatures at minus zero, with to much lubrication it can change the consistency of the lubrication I was told, causing problems to the action of the rifle. As for the bolt release, it shouldn't be moving like that, so I'm wondering if it's loose and it's not making proper contact with the mechanism that releases the bolt. Like I said if your rifle is new let Savage fix it for you to keep your warranty intact.

@@LRock- I just took it out the box and began to fire it and then that happened. I put some oil on it but it still didn’t fully fix it. Also another thing is that the pin would hit the bullet but it wouldn’t ignite it.

I'M not sure of what you are asking but if you're rifle is consistent, where the firing pin is striking the primer of the cartridges and firing the bullets at your targets than your rifle is operating like it should. This is a bolt action rifle where the bolt doesn't automatically cycle to have the firing pin strike the primer, you manually cycle the cartridges where the bolt doesn't strike the cartridges but when you pull the trigger the firing pin inside the bolt strikes the primer to fire the cartridge. If the firing pin is striking the primer and your rifle is firing, than it's working like it should, so there nothing wrong with your rifle. If the pin is not striking the primer than you're bolt is faulty and call Savage Arms customer service and they will send you a new one.
