Keep in mind that what a lot of people think are unfinished roasted maple necks actually have a satin nitro finish. This is the case with the Charvel DK24. People think it’s unfinished, but it has a satin finish. So, while the instructions in this video are great for truly unfinished necks, this might damage a satin finish.

Good info. Another thing you can do after trapping the metal filings, if you have one laying around somewhere, I always take an old pickup and run it over everything. This picks up any loose shavings that might get attracted to the pickup after you pull the tape up.

Another note make sure to tape the surround of the pickups too as if any of the steel wool gets into the pickup winding it will lead to the failure of the pickup by shorting the coil. I sometimes use scotch brite to reduce risk of this.

A lot better than what I was doing. I use an old credit card to scrape the finger gunk off, then apply f1. I let it sit for 15 seconds, then I run in with a microfiber cloth. For frets, I use the same card, which has a rectangular fret "slot" I cut with an exacto knife. I line the fret up with the slot and scrape with super fine steel wool. The plastic around the slot keeps the board from being scraped.

It will give you knowledge should you eventually buy one. It could also help if you ever have a friend, or band mate, who owns one.
