I had a 20 plate heat exchanger that I replaced 2 years ago because I thought it was plugged. I took it out and it had sediments in it but looked ok. I put a new one in figuring it was plugged because your can't see the inside of it, just the main holes. Then I replace the exchanger in the furnace because I thought that was plugged but it also looked fine. Both were 8 years old and who knows how long they are supposed to last. The reason I thought they were plugged is because my water heater works always run and when it was I first hooked it OWD up it didn't. Come to find out the pump was way to small and after I bought a new pump from you I never had a problem with it. Thanks for your video!

If you replaced both heat exchangers than the bigger pump, maybe it was all 3, the flow could of been cut in 1/2 or more by build up, and that wore out the pump, so your flow was poor? My concerns are how can you tell with flow indicators at each location and bypass at each to take the HX out, I hate to go buy new without knowing for sure? I have a HeatMor that is 16 years old, with out changing either of the 3, but may be time?

@@daveschooley8514 I know it was the pump, I didn't know anything about pumps and after investigating the pump flow it was only good for 35 feet loop. I needed a pump that can got 200 feet loop. Now I have the correct pump I bought from alternative heating and supply and I have not had an issue since.

Any information on connecting a 20 plate heat exchanger to a tankless water heater? Can it be done? Should it be done? Is it ok to completely bypass the tankless heater? Meaning shutting the inlet and outlet valves on the tankless in the winter. And running solely on the heat exchanger in the winter. And running the tankless in the summer when the boiler isn’t being used?

Jeff do you have any preferences on filtering the water of an OWB before it hits the plate exchanger, I have heard a lot about what folks do from expensive woven cartridge's with stainless housing filters to just a simple screen trap setup.

I don't recommend filtering the water from the boiler. When the cartridge's get dirty it builds up pressure and blows pumps.

Thanks for the information but I guess what you are saying is to just get another one about as good. I have a question on my heat master it's a mf 5000 and trying to find out what pump is in this one all the numbers I get off it don't match any that you have in the catalog . I don't need one right now but thought I might go ahead and get one for backup. Thanks for all your help
