How to Clay Bar your Car for Beginners!

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Today I do a basic comparison of the Clay Bar Vs Clay Block and keep things as simple as possible to help the Beginners out there who are new to car detailing.
To keep it short and sweet I wont be including the Clay Cloth in this video as its not a favourite of mine and it makes more sense to compare two completely different products instead of making things over complicated.

Thanks again Dave for the tutorial on clay if your vehicle👍 I tend to use auto finesse clay but also wear disposable rubber gloves as I find it grips the clay bar better than bare hands especially when they are covered in clay lube! And a small point to add is that I spray the lube on the clay as well as the body panels before I start. And I can hold my hand up and say I have dropped the clay on the floor , then it’s straight into the dustbin and grab a fresh piece👍.

I used to use the clay mitt until i decided to to the bar wasn't to keen at 1st and haven't changed since than, but think the blocks would be more ideal for the larger panels especially for the doors and wings as even now i still drop them and its usually a new piece ive just got out and only done about half or full door as it slides out of your hand 😔 😆. Good one Dave! The block is one of my favourite out of all, I prefer that even over clay mitt also. The thing with clay barring is you will have to Polish up afterwards incase of marring the paint. You can just Decon the car with chemicals and apply a wax and still get great results. Albeit not perfect but still the difference between a car that looks great and a car that looks perfect isn't a huge gap. To most people you wouldn't notice

Clay blocks (or mitts/pads) can help to work faster, but I still prefer clay bars over the alternatives, regardless. 😁 I like to put the bars into warm/hot water before use, to make them nice soft, also depending the circumstances/environment and the level of contamination, I quite like to use a wax-free shampoo or diluted APC or degreaser as a lubricant after the wash stage, keeping the surfaces wet by squeezing the wash mitt over the surfaces and the clay bar to help speeding my process up. This removes tar spots, tree sap etc that polish won’t remove. I’ve only clay barred a car twice in the past with meguiars clay kit so I’m no expert but the difference before polishing is night and day. The paint is very smooth and polish just glides on and a lot easier to buff off. But that was years ago so I’ve bought a clay mitt to try and some new wax to apply after it

Clay blocks are okay for light contaminants. Clay bars you can actually see the contaminannts Yr removing. Bilt hamber clay superb. Wear nitrile gloves this helps to grip the clay better

To be awkward , as ever , you also have clay cloths now . I noticed yesterday whilst washing the lads car his need a decon but it can get the winter over with first . Ive used a block and bar and like you say a bar is ideal for those tougher areas . Something I have done was cardboard on the floor with a bin bag around it so if you do drop it , then its landing on this and less likely to pick high amount of crap up in it . And if you only using it on smaller areas then chances are you wont inflict too much damage if it is say a bar across a grill say . As ever you put everything over so well that even idiots like myself could understand it . Nice idea the shorter , more focused and informative stuff for the newbies to detailing

Thanks for the comment mate. Trying to remove the fluff in the tutorials. No disrespect to other channels but "just get to the point" lol, nobody surely wants to watch a one hour special on a clay bar 😂. I still use the clay bar but the block has definitely won me over 🎉

What you didn't tell your novice viewers is to never use dropped clay bar as it will have picked up a zillion bits of grit. Eeeeek. Just got my 1st Clay Mitt from Amazon... after ordering it they changed delivery from next day to 21 days so I cancelled the order and got refunded. The item still arrived from China. Hahaaa... Do you think I should send it back? Edit: forgot to say..... a little tip for the viewers..... warm up clay bar by dropping in a tub of piping hot water for several mins. ✌👊
