“He who is without sin, cast the first stone.” The latest iPhone is out now, there are people in the comment section that will buy it on contract because they can’t afford the cash price- which means the phone is not in their financial lane. They will do it to flex the same way this brother did, now they hating on the brother because he did it on a major scale. So let’s not cast stones at this brother and rather learn from him, and if we have R3mil saved in the bank, hopefully we will make better decisions. And this thing about saying “us black people, as black people” nah B speak for yourself, a lot of us black people work well with our money, it’s a matter of education not melanin in the skin that determines the way you use money.

The dynamics of money aren’t that simple: 1. Saving only erodes the money through inflation and bank charges. 2. “Investing” in capital and money markets is too volatile, it’s either you win big or you lose big, honestly, in most cases it’s lose big. 3. Investing in “business ideas” that you come up with after you get the money is a recipe for disaster. You need time to build a client base for your product or service and that means running the business for months on negative, overheads will kill you. You can get heavy machinery with no immidiate market or distribution then what? You’re stuck with huge machinery in a huge factory you’re renting out paying people to run the machinery you have no clue about. After that factor in that you’re going to need working capital to manufacture the product, not all suppliers pay 💰 immediately, some can be 3 weeks or even months and what happens then when your client delays payment and you have nil cash flow...you’ll end up in debt right where you started from. I honestly wouldn’t call it poverty mentality but black or African mentality. I’m Zimbabwean and run a business in a very tough environment. I’ll be honest, I learnt business from watching how white people run and build their empires. They invest in research and building systems. They prepare themselves in every possible way before the money comes. Most of the work when starting a business lies in getting to understand your market, your product and building somewhat of a reputation before you even get the money that way when it comes it’s more of a smooth organic transition that goes in line with your learning curve and growth. I really hope one day we can run our continent efficiently by ourselves and not be the laughing stock of the planet. We have so much potential

The issue is not financial literacy, it's a self esteem issue. Image is too important for us black people, even if someone like this was educated on how to use their money, the likelihood of them following such advise is very slim I can tell you because they feel it would delay them from being a show off, the core of the problem is right there(the need to be seen) if we can address that issue perhaps we can go somewhere. In closing, even if folks lack financial literacy, whose responsibility is it to impart such knowledge? It lies solely on the one who has money, let us stop acting like victims. We need to call a spade a spade if we are ever going to grow as black people, until then we will keep going around in circles, this is just irresponsible behaviour finish and klaar.

@@edmundsishange3608 The beauty about being black is understanding each other. I understand everything you've said. But highlighting our weaknesses does not move us forward it makes us the very victims you speak of, continuing the cycle. Financial literacy liberates one all out of entire choice from breaking bad habits and addictions for greater freedom and future returns. Overspending is as addictive as alcohol and women as seen in these instances. Help is needed. The better you know. The better you act. Blaming and crushing our people for their weaknesses is seeing a problem and walking over it expecting it to disappear. The rich get richer and the poor get poorer because of the "individual" divide where we have social segregation and classes, when we all truly deserve to be equally informed. What goes on beyond that is work, perseverance and effort until one gets lifted from their destructive ways. We can do it. Each one. Reach one. Teach one. It's up to me and you. I have started, with a great Non-profit organization to expose our children to handling and making money and real world issues so we never see them appear on such shows.
