Choosing your medical schools is exciting! You feel like everything you have worked for up to this point is slowly starting to take shape. But, it can also feel overwhelming because you might not know where to start. This is why, I created this list of 6 things to take into account when you are choosing your medical school.
Here it is:
01:02 Use your strengths to apply tactically
02:43 How will the teaching be conducted (integrated/PBL/traditional)?
05:56 The length of the degree (5/6 years)
08:14 How will anatomy be taught (prosection vs dissection)?
09:38 The city and the environment
11:14 The structure of the university (campus uni vs city uni)
If you've made it this far, thank you for your support and don't forget that "that you are absolutely unique. Just like everyone else.” - Margaret Mead

Hey, great video! I appreciate your time and effort going into these! I am applying to medical school this year, and I am sitting my UCAT exam at the end of this month but I'm really worried that I am just not going to get a good score. I have achieved 1A* 5A's 4B's 1C at GCSE (I understand these grades are not the best). What would be the most strategic way for me to apply considering my GCSE, a "potentially" low UCAT score but I get the A level requirements of AAA next year. Once again, great video and keep uploading!

Hi 👋🏽 thank you very much for your comment! If I could give you some advice I would tell you to focus on your UCAT for now. Make sure that you practice well so you can get a good score on that. And then, once you have your UCAT score you can start evaluating where to apply tactically. If your UCAT doesn’t go too well then you can look for schools that have a lower UCAT cut-off and where you meet the GCSE requirements. On the contrary, if your UCAT goes well then you can apply to schools that have higher UCAT cut-offs and where you meet the GCSE requirements. I hope this was helpful, best of luck 🍀 If you want to discuss this more, you can always contact me through Instagram :)

Hii, it's a really helpful video! I am just not sure when you are talking about the bachelor's and master's degrees, are you referring to the intercalate programme?

I'm having difficulty choosing between whether to apply to Oxford or Cambridge. Please could you suggest which key factors I should keep in mind when making my decision?

Hii thank you for your comment! Personally I didn’t apply to either 😬 but I would say that the way you are taught the course is the most important factor to me. So I would suggest you look at the differences (even if they are subtle) between the two schools and see which one suits best. Also as Oxbridge are quite similar in course structure I would suggest that you look at the location and see which place you would feel more comfortable living in. Hope this helps ✨

@@DifferentlyMoi Thank you very much! Yes I've researched the two courses and universities in depth. There are some subtle differences but nothing huge from my perspective. The main differences are then the relative acceptance rates, and the two locations; the former favouring Cambridge, and, the latter, Oxford. Perhaps I should not put much emphasis on acceptance rate, however.

I think if you like the locations equally, you should apply to the college you think you have the highest chance of getting in! Best of luck 🍀
