As much as I despise big box wine and spirit stores, it does offer you the opportunity to research, explore and learn. Thank you for your awesome inspiration

Why despise them? TW for example, has the best selection and price of any retail store.

Pound for pound one of your best. Great variety of pics and graphics. Helps beginners simplify an imposing process. Love the tea bag example. Never thought of oak that way. 🍷MP

Excellent video (as always). When I first started in the 1960’s in Oklahoma, it was basically a wine desert!! Instead of too many choices there was hardly any choices at least in our local liquor stores. And Oklahoma had some very restrictive alcoholic beverage regulations that didn’t make it any easier! My Dad first introduced me to wine and at the time, he thought Taylor of New York was very good wine! So, after I got out of the military, I bought Taylor of New York until one day they were no longer in NY but California and the wine was awful!! And of course, the old Taylor of New York winery was now Bully Hill! Can you say, “ Billy Goat Red” which was their top seller!! Yuk! After over 60 years of drinking wine, I have tried many different wines from many different countries and have developed a fairly sophisticated palate and while there were certainly some stinkers along the way, the great majority were good to great but all of them were fabulous learning experiences. Now I am just give me a great Italian wine (of which there are many) and I’m good to go.

I'm still a beginner and will be for years to come. To get a decent overview theoretically speaking isn't the hard part, your book helped with that among a plethora of other sources. The hard part is getting the practical references you need to be able to put a face on all the theory and direction, and define what wine is to you. And as if the immensity of the field isn't enough, wine is an acquired taste to boot, so it's going to change as you go. I've been excited and elated, and I've been frustrated and disillusioned. But in time I've learned to appreciate the journey _for_ the journey, which philosophically speaking is probably all it'll ever be.

Thanks to you, Madeline, I began my wine education journey several years ago after finding Wine Folly. Now I have spent the last several months (ok, ok, it's been well over a year) preparing to sit the CSW exam and I'm terrified. Your content is always so practical and educational educational, so whatever my test outcome, I still will listen to every word you say.

Good info! (As usual!) The Costco wine section is my bargain hunting zone. I look in the wood boxes for bottles that are not in the usual Costco inventory; and the 'one-pallet-and-done' wine stacks under the warehouse racks (aka the "cheap seats").
