Quality Chianti was the wine that began my love for wine, and no matter how much my palette evolves, I agree with you, Chianti still remains a favorite! 👍🏼

@@drmatthewhorkey the Chianti Rufina from a high elevation vineyard is also very worthwhile. Lately I’ve been loving Toscana Rosso IGT from Maremma and the hills west of San Gimignano a lot too. I love that they can grow any varietal they want under IGT and still get the Tuscan climate and terroir! There’s some really awesome stuff getting planted these days that Italy never had planted a decade ago 😁 I’m also starting to get an affinity for Aglianico from the Amalfi Coast if we’re talking about the Italian greats 👍🏼

Hi Mr. Horkey, I just bought and tasting a 2018 Sasyr wine from Tuscany. It's 60% Sangiovese & 40% Syrah and I love it! It's all the qualities you describe, sour cherry, very earthy, smooth on the palate. And that red brick color. Very enjoyable! This one is from Rocca Delle Macie. Thanks for pointing me to this grape.

Awesome video. Love sangiovese. A glass of some really good brunello was my falling in love with great wines. Tastes like life. Request: seeing how pinot noir / burgundy and sangiovese / tuscany both are kind of in the lighter and livelier edge of the spectrum of great red wines, how about a comparison between the two?

There are many "clones" or "cousins" of sangiovese. In every little sub-area of tuscany, the sangiovese usually have a different name to it, and actually have subtle differences to them, all being mutation of the distant and original sangiovese. You may come across "Morelino di Scansano" in which Morelino is a clone of the sangiovese grape, usually made in or near the town of Scansano which is closer to the coastal areas of Tuscany. Or in example. Brunello di Montalcino, the sangiovese used is called Sangiovese Grosso, which is yet another clone of sangiovese. Usually yielding fatter, or bigger fruit giving it the name "sangiovese grosso" also nicknamed Brunello (little brown one) The list goes on and on, I believe there are over 50 synonyms in Italy for this grape. All of which are uniquely special. Even outside of Tuscany... Montelpuciano D'abruzzo...well, montelpuciano is yet another clone of sangiovese. In the end, when you ask me. How to choose the best sangiovese. You can't, they are all amazing and they will always individually hold a special place in my heart.
