    All the green colors are my favorite especially the green smelt… And with Vince’s (Vince Goes Fishing) Battle Star 115’s I feel like the LC 115 is superior and I prefer the 115 over the 110 because the beaches I fish I can drag bottom without worrying about snagging

    Can someone please let me know how to cast the lucky craft lure. It seems like they only go like 20 feet. I have a 10’6 rod that is made for casting but I can never get the lucky craft to go far. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

  • @BenjieKimFishing

    So many variables here that range from gear as well as technique. What's the line & lure rating on your rod? What reel are you pairing it with and what kind of line and pound line are you using? The LC 110 is 16.7 grams (a little over 1/2 oz) so you want a rod that's close to the middle of that spec ie 1/4 to 3/4 or 1/4 to 1 oz...something like that. I like a 2500 to 3000 size reel with 20 to 30 pound braid backing and 15 pound fluoro leader tied with an RP connection knot. Line can play a pretty important part in casting distance. An average cast for me is about 30 to 40 yards and sometimes longer if the conditions are favorable. I'm by no means a skilled caster but I'm happy with the distance I'm getting. Technique wise, it's important to load the lure on your swing back and snap forward to launch it. Sometime's I've seen folks try to loft it out like if they were casting with a 5 ounce bait and wait setup and that won't work for the LC. Another thing to watch for is if your LC is "helicoptering" on the cast. This might be because the ball bearings are displaced which will inhibit the weight transfer system in the lure. You can alleviate this by holding the lure at the head/bill and shaking for a few seconds to let the ball bearings settle into their natural place. If casted correctly, your LC should launch like a missile with no erratic side to side movements. I don't know where you are with experience so my apologies if I'm bringing up possibilities that are elementary. But hopefully some of this info might help. Tight lines!

    @@BenjieKimFishing I spooled 20lb braidline on my new 4000 size reel yesterday. I would have reeled in 15lb if I had seen your comment, so sad. And I went surf fishing at Capistrano Beach yesterday. But I didn't catch anything. When I look at your video, the waves are calm, but I don't know why the waves are strong everywhere I go. So next Monday, I'm just going to go to the familiar bolsachoca and do some soft worm fishing. Surf minnows are too difficult for me. I bought a lot of Lucky Craft, but I'm sad.

  • @BenjieKimFishing

    @BenjieKimFishing

    You're totally fine with 20 pound, especially on a 4k reel. I assure you on that, just be confident! Calm water isn't specific to any one location. I'm way more picky when I go out nowadays...there are probably 2 to 3 times a month where things line up the way you see them on video. I'm actually going to make a video on that soon so stay tuned. The same beach where it is ultra calm will be super rough depending on any particular day and it can change by the hour. The 3 biggest things to research before fishing imo are - Wave energy (measured in KJ's) less than 100 but in SoCal I try to fish when the energy is 50 or below, swell height (I try to plan my trips when the swell is 1 to 2 ft), and double digit periods. Obviously wind is another big one to pay attention to. The LC is best when it is calm in my experience...you can get away with bigger swell and energy with other styles of fishing...the LC can always still get bit but conditions play a big part on my best fishing days. At the end of the day, do what brings you joy and confidence. What I love doesn't have to be what you love - I think as long as we are all getting out there and learning and getting better, everything else will take care of itself. I've shared this story many times, but it took me over a year before I started finding consistent success with the LC. But once I got a hang of it, the quality of fish I started catching went up 10 fold. Tight lines!

    @@socalpilotjin3720 stick with it! Confidence is so important, especially when fishing is tough and you’re just starting out. The ones who persevere are the ones who are rewarded later. But trust me, everyone struggles from time to time. Obviously I’m not gonna post a bad fishing session unless there’s a lesson to teach. I don’t skunk too often nowadays but I still have plenty of tough days. And I skunked plenty when I was starting out. That’s what makes fishing great imo - the process of learning and then eventually reaping the rewards. You got this!!
