How To Choose A Kettle: Home Brewing Basics
Buying a new kettle can be overwhelming. This week we walk you through how to choose a kettle based on the batch size of beer you want to brew, the method you want to use to brew it, and the features you want to make your brew day more enjoyable.

Thanks for watching!
Also worth noting on the aluminum kettle option: other than cleaners, you can not use them on an induction burner.
cool guide. Thanks
Really useful video, although I'm from the U.K. it's still relevant. I think I'll go for the ss brewtech 15 gallon. Cheers and subbed as well.. David Farquhar Henderson.
These kettles are nice. Gonna use one to pasteurize fruit juices
Thank you.
Nice video. Go Beavs!
good video ty
Wish I saw this first. I had the 5 gallon pot from the kit and jumped to a 16 gallon pot when switching to all grain brew. The 16 gallon was too big for the biab so I mashed in the 5 gallon kettle and dumped it into the 16 gallon and heated up more water in the 5 gallon and sparge rinsed the biab in the 5 gallon kettle very well and dumped that in the 16 gallon kettle to boil. I got an 8.1% abv doing this so I know it works, well at least for me it did
What brand is the first 5 gallon kettle from the video, it looks pretty good.
Great video. Upgrading to 26 gal kettle to make 20 gal 8 -10 % abv IPA. Is two 15 gal keg w false bottom more efficient than 2 10 gal mash tun coolers? I’m not good with how much water needed for mash for 20 gal batch.
I have an alluminum pot that is quite large i would like to try utilizing for my wurt. What is a good non-alkaline cleaner to use and which sanitizer should i use.
Understand this is an older video... however, thoughts on Spike brewing kettles?
Awesome video. I’m thinking of making a 2 vessel k rims system and thinking of doing 15 gallon kettles. I like to do 3 gallon test batches, would that work on a 15 gallon kettle? I want to pay once so I don’t have to upgrade later

The 3 gallon batches could definitely work in a 15 gallon kettle but it wouldn't scale perfectly to your larger batches with the rims system. For small batches you might consider a different heating method and/or mashing method. The relative evaporation would be higher with the 3 gallon batches so a less aggressive heat source might be more appropriate, and recirculation may not be worth the liquid loss (or cleaning) for a small batch. Finally you may consider a quality dip tube to again minimize loss for the smaller batches.

Genus Brewing thanks for the quick response. That sounds like a good idea. I’ll keep my small batch equipment just in case. Thank you!

You're welcome! That sounds like a good plan :)
When you mention BIAB, are you talking about doing 5gal batches? I am looking to do 2.5 gallon batches and I don't know if 5gal kettle would be enough, or if I should just go for 8?

A five gallon kettle should be big enough for 2.5 gallon batches, however I we often advocate for an over-sized kettle for flexibility. We've seen a lot of people start with under sized batches and quickly want to scale to larger ones. That said, the cost of a simple 5 gallon kettle is low enough that it's not a major investment, so it is perfectly reasonable to start there and grow into a larger kettle later if need be.

There is a new article/exbeerment from Matt about partial boils: goo.gl/zv9Rdm. This might just help me get into AG. I know you guys like to break the rules, maybe this would be a great video: BIAB partial boil in 5 gal kettles :D Cheers mates!

Sebastian Jitianu I just read that! We have done a handful of partial boils (our local lager video was a partial boil) but that would be a great brew myths experiment for the channel!

Sounds great! Looking forward to watching it :D
Can these kettles be used to pasteurize juices?
so which size kettle do I need for my potential prospective 6 gallon home brewing volume? I am going bu 23 Liters since being Korean. All grain .

You're looking for an 8-10 gallon Kettle

Agreed. 10 gallon would be just about right. Much smaller and you will always have to deal with the possibility of boilovers.
For a beginner, would you recommend a kettle with BIAB or an all-in-one electric such as the anvil foundry or some other ?
@SchmegmaOnToast

If you can afford the anvil foundry, GO FOR IT! The fact that you have a delay start feature, it takes away 1hr off your brew day. I would get me own pump instead of theirs.
So pissed I own a 15 gallon SS Brewtech kettle with no markings below 6 gallons. Good video

I put a strip of aluminum heat tape on the outside and make markings using permanent marker and used water as a gauge.
All you sell on your website are pumps and shirts?

Yea currently most of are sales are in store only, although we have had people send us facebook messages to order products. We are planning to overhaul the website at some point but currently lack the time.
The clad bottom pots will last forever if you take care of them.
