When I am searching for an online review of a product I tend to shy away from the generic “best make up tips“ types of websites. Instead I go toward the personal websites that come up with the keywords thatI search for. That’s why I am thinking it might be best to name my website some version of my own name rather than Using just keywords that talk about the niche. I tend to think the other sites are just trying to sell me something whereas the personal sites are someone giving their honest opinion on a product and since that is what I will be doing I’m thinking maybe I should do it that way. Do you have any thoughts on this?

Hi Miles. I've got a technical question for you on domain names. Do you think it matters whether you use , , www, www. for the domain protocol? I'm asking because the more I've learned about web hosting (from switching to A2) the more choices I realize we have now. https just adds that extra layer of security, especially if you plan on getting an SSL and setting up an online shop. I just want to start an authority site that I can build on and didn't know if you had any preferences. Thanks again man!

Great advice mate, thanks! :) One quick question; I am either considering my personal name, or a domain name which is kind of ''crowded'' if you know what I mean. There are multiple variations of those, and the exact domain name I am talking about is a used Instagram hashtag with +100k mentions. There are also 4 different or more podcasts with that exact name. Would you advice against going for that domain name? Still the best I was able to come up with, checks all the boxes, but just a bit crowded... Hope to hear from you! :)

Hi Miles..My domain has a tail on the end ....... /7steps....... so I can't put ads on FB because the full domain will not show up in the display on the ad box sucks, I guess I have to buy a new domain and process it differently when I wrap the raw URL.. so what I am saying is my domain will not come up with out the tail. I went through click magic with the raw url.

  • @MilesB

Something sounds off here. How long is the main domain name itself? Drive traffic to url's that have tails on the end without any problems. The only thing I can think of is that your main domain name is incredibly long and if that's so it could be valuable to get a shorter domain name. Last thing... Could you 301 redirect the homepage to your landing page?

Miles, Thanks for sharing! This can be a Great Course to offer in person in workshops etc. I like it that you share about keeping the domain name to something "short" and keep it simple. Sleep on it, take a walk before we buy the domain on impulse. And more importantly, buy our name as a domain. I did that early in 2013. :D Have an Awesome Experience sharing what you know. Thank you!

Was Thrive supposed to come automatically on the WordPress? I would love if we could maybe set up a meeting to get some help with this.

Whoop. Great stuff. Food for thought. tomjohnston.com is long gone--just reached out to the company that is trying to sell it (based on your guidance in this video). Am contemplating thomasljohnston.com (middle initial) or as noted in a comment yesterday thethreeskills.com. The bummer with the latter is that the word "kills" is in it. You mentioned in this video you don't want negative or odd words popping up in there.......

Dee, Thanks a lot for taking the time to give me your perspective. I ran this by my sister, and she had basically the exact same thought process you just described. I've been using the word "skills" my whole life and never thought it had any negative connotations. So I don't think I have to overthink this ;). We'll see if maestro Miles weighs in as well. Thanks again for your perspective. I'm really new to this stuff.

  • @MilesB

+Trey Johnston honestly, my eye kept getting hooked on the 'kills' hidden in there and that could be a deal killer. See what else you can come up with that represents your big idea without 'skills' and I didn't mention it, but a thesaurus can be way handy here!

Miles, thanks so much for your honest feedback. I'll give this some more thought. I also think my name with my middle initial thomasljohnston.com seems a bit burdensome as well. My hard deadline is December 30th to have a website name registered. So I have time. threestrengths.com is an option...

  • @MilesB

Remember that you have posted your options here in public... Consider grabbing the ones on your shortlist for a year, just to have them, so no sneaky KZread troll can come and grab them before you! Another thing about skills is that A) it makes people think it takes work or B) people feel like they have skills or don't. Most people are more interested in happy hour and watching TV than building skills. This is why the 'magic pill' phrases work so well... The 'secrets' and 'tricks' type approach. It excites people... Now, I'm not saying you want to go with 'TricksToWealth.com' but you may want to play around with other words like: 'steps' 'path' 'system' 'blueprint' 'easy' etc. It would make them feel (subconsciously) that they don't need to 'work' at building skills, just follow the path, steps, etc. which feels easier. People want all the results with no effort... So playing to that a bit works well... And then giving them what they need.

Yep. Am aware of the risk. I've come up with some much better names today, actually. I'm not gonna put them up here till I lock one or two of them up. The new names are way catchier, I think. Will circle back when I settle on one.
