Do it like this and the XF will always give you the current oil level hot or cold, 100% foolproof. Open hood by pulling back the lever, DO NOT press down on brake and only press the ignition button, scroll through the small window options located on the dashboard by pressing the small chrome button on the headlights lever, if there’s a “see handbook” type of message on the window instead of the current engine oil level, just press down twice on the Cancel button quickly, it’s located on steering wheel control.

You can only check it when the engine is cold , it won’t let you do it if it’s warm , you’ll get a false reading because the oil hasn’t all returned to the sump. Check the oil on the dash before you start the car .

Thank you, this worked on my 2015 XF, the car had been standing for a couple of hours and I already had the bonnet up. Cheers.

THANKS MATE! I don't know why i can't find any useful videos about jaguar xf; my first car was a nissan qq and i found tons of useful videos and "how to" and guide videos. For XF? none. besides "how to access hidden menu" ;

I prefer the dipstick method, for some reason I check the oil less frequently with this method (as I thought you could only check it 10 minutes after engine stopped) will have to start checking more often and before engine started. I love my JAG, People say there not reliable but let me tell you my BMW loved going to the mechanic for repair. German cars do break down. Advertising works were continuing told how good they are but are they any better than others.

Every car I've ever owned has had a dipstick. Dipsticks allow me to look at and sniff the condition of the oil. Jaguar has cleverly designed a system that can't be simple, otherwise it wouldn't need a 3 minute video to explain it. Dipsticks are inexpensive and reliable. Jaguar's design involves a numerous possibilities for failure, such as an oil level sensor, numerous wiring connections, the bonnet sensor, the multi-purpose button on the headlight stalk, the touchscreen, and all the other sensors and elaborate software that inform a computer that that the necessary steps and conditions have been met to give the driver the necessary oil level information. Also, I doubt that the majority of Jaguar owners have the curiosity, patience, or technical ability to discover and perform the elaborate procedures shown in this video. It's almost as if JLR wants their consumers to be at fault for mechanical failures.

Opening bonnet doesn't work on the face-lift XF model . You have to let car stand for 20 min before oil level can be read .

It's the same on the pre-facelift model.

Okay, but that's not a hidden menu. It says so in the owner's manual.

Don't you just open the bonnet, pull out the dipstick and check the level that way ?

@@JimmyTheMower Yep, if you look at the oil pan you can see there's an oil level sensor bolted into the bottom of it. Through the gauge cluster is the only way to check the oil level (or the diagnostic reader).
